The construction of the Pink Line MRT train route (Kaerai-Min Buri) is now 54 per cent complete and should be ready to open for public use on schedule in October 2021 despite the Covid-19 crisis, Surachet Laophulsuk, Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) deputy governor of Engineering and Construction, said on Monday (April 27).

After an inspection, he said the Min Buri station will serve as a feeder to the MRT Orange Line (Thailand Cultural Centre-Min Buri).

“The project started in 2018 and as of March 31 was 54 per cent complete. Also, 55 per cent of civil work and almost 50 per cent of the electric train system has been completed,” said Surachet. “We have adjusted our working hours by increasing daytime work to comply with the government’s night curfew in this Covid-19 situation. We expect to follow the original schedule with no problem.”

Surachet said the trains to be used for the Pink Line should reach Thailand around October.

We are importing Innovia 300 Monorail trains from Bombardier Transportation in Berlin, Germany. These are lighter than the standard trains we use for other MRT lines and will have rubber wheels that create less noise. Each train can transport 28,000 passengers per hour and are fully fitted with modern safety equipment such as CCTV cameras, smoke detectors, and an emergency door opening system,” he said.

“The MRTA is satisfied with the progress of the project despite the coronavirus situation, and will keep up the good work to make sure that every aspect is ready for the official opening in October next year,” Surachet added.
