CCSA voices concern about people’s mental health

 

   

BANGKOK (NNT) - The government’s Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration has expressed concern about the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on people’s mental health, which can lead to suicide.

 

Speaking of a spike in suicides during the pandemic, the CCSA Spokesman, Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin, said the government and the Ministry of Public Health are fully aware of the gravity of the issue and are searching for solutions, using information from academics and various sources.

 

According to a report released by the Department of Mental Health, this is a global crisis. It has affected people’s physical and mental health. Physicians around the world have predicted that the number of deaths from self-harm or suicide will increase during this pandemic. The Department of Mental Health is looking into this problem. Different sectors in many countries are also working together to address the issue.

 

If people are aware of relatives or other individuals who may have suicidal thoughts, they can contact the Department of Mental Health’s hotline service. Although the number of suicides is currently lower than that during the Tom Yum Kung financial crisis, all sides have to work together to solve it.

27 million unemployed, many of whom don't have enough money to put food on the tables for their families, the debacle of the alleged government 5,000 baht handouts, then closing a whole industry down for yet another month, keeping millions still unemployed, and, in so doing, depriving people of a way to relax at home. Can they honestly say they are surprised.

I do think that, had the disbanded party been in power, they would have handled things much better, with more empathy and sympathy for the people of their country.

Many people already lived from hand to mouth now they have nothing the local orbortor came around once with food and that was over a week ago thats not lasting long.

I see a few groups in my area handing out 100's of meals a day as they are relying on donations how long can they sustain that? when the donations dry up what happens then?

I think it will get to a point where people can only donate so much money

Suicide due to the economic situation will take more lives than Covid 19 in Thailand.

The Covid 19 death rate here is unfortunate but minimal.

I really do not understand the Thai Government's thinking regarding containment to eliminate the Virus.  Every Tambon should have a feeding point to give food to every Thai who has no income therefore no food.  They should be funded by a special Government Fund, but by not doing so, it gives the impression that those in power do not care about the needy.  An utter disgrace!  They are also obsessed about baning the sale of alcocol.  Hello, most of the Thai population cannot afford to buy alcohol at the moment, they are struggling to buy food!

 

Yes, it would seem they have controlled the contagion exceptionally well and congratulations for achieving that, but yet again, those in power seem incapable to thinking outside the box.  Get your Policemen and Army off their fat butts and going around looking for those who are breaking the contagion rules - like not wearing masks, not keeping their distance, breaking curfew etc.  The Thai population are renowned for thinking that laws are "advisory". 

 

The laws needs to be enforced, but the Government also needs to have much more consideration of the thousands who are becoming suicidal because they are struggling to feed themselves and their Familiies and forget this silliness of a booze ban, which most cannot afford anyway.

By continuing to keep in place unreasonable restrictions while the curve is flat will continue upsetting and stressing people out. This CCSA is being extremely incompetent at the moment and it will start the demise of the current government.

Hopefully, before a Thai considers killing themselves due to the reckless disregard and cruelty shown to them by a few....maybe they'll take a look at their loved ones and friends and consider other solutions, and perhaps direct their understandable rage towards those few.

Well lots of Thais stressing out or suiciding seems like a fair price to pay so that a minority of foreigners can cower in their homes safe from the deadly pandemic...that's the covid not the road toll.

It's not about eliminating the virus, it's about grabbing absolute power under the disguise of a crisis, for once and forever. 

 

If they were actually using the lockdowns for the virus, they would prepare massive testing and tracking. It's not happening, so they are for other purposes. Keep the dissidents locked in while usurpers finalize their plans.
