Yes, I could not obtain the medical certificate required in March here in UK. Will the requirements for the wonderfull ? Chinese be more lenient.

Pure speculation regarding health letters. Let's not put the horse before the cart. As things are returning to normal in Vietnam and Thailand soon too, we're already seeing people not doing social distancing and not wearing masks (on the beaches). Life will be back to normal before we know it and even if tourist numbers aren't going to be the same for a while, you can rest assured tourist dependent countries will do everything they can to lure tourists back and despite some of the rhetoric by various politicians and others in positions of authority, if there are any unreasonable restrictions NO ONE will be back, and the economy will continue to hurt, and people will start protesting and you know where that will lead.

Hope springs eternal. It's just so hard to distinguish from delusion sometimes, especially with Thai tourism officials.

 

Wow, lucky Chiang Mai, hordes of Chinese tourists spending nothing and spreading virus. Good luck.

I fear that you may be right about that. Whilst Thailand is celebrating that it is getting to the end of the virus the rest of the world is still in a mess. Thailand as always seems to be blinkered and thinks that we are all going to simply return to normal existence as soon as they declare all ok, ridiculous. Thailand needs to focus on the domestic economy as much as they can and say a prayer that one day tourism will recover to some extent. The news is good foe the locals who have been struggling so much, they can at least start fending for themselves again but relying on tourism to bring back the money is unbelievably stupid. stay safe everyone.

you guys keep remarking how the thai government will make special rules for the chinese.  maybe they will if they want to jump-start tourism, but they don't have to. 

 

the chinesers CAN get covid certificates.  our local small town hainan general hospital has testing with certificates available for the equivalent of 1000 baht.  and if the thai government insists on insurance with a special covid-19 rider, then winnie the xi-pooh-bah can just article 44 it into existence.

Wish it were that easy. Must be from the country of origin. And impossible to get in the US. Hopefully, things will simmer down in the US and Europe sometime soon, and Thailand will not require it in the near future. 

TAT hopes by the end of the year the High season will be back. In July no one comes as it is low season and millions of Chinese have lost their jobs. Heilongjiang Province has one city Mudanjiang under a full lock down and Harbin is the next, possible as soon as tomorrow. Chinese people are not that stupid and for this year they are just happy to have local tourism inside China.

 

Vietnam and the Philippines seems to handled the pandemic the best in ASEAN and Singapore did had a lot of bad luck with the migrant workers but on the end to get hit badly but Singapore is a global city which will always attracts a lot of business for both pleasure and business but they have been very transparent and still report each case number.

 

Vietnam shut down the Wuhan virus by closing the borders as soon Taiwan did in January.

The big winners will be Vietnam in terms of manufacturing and inbound tourism. 

 

As for China, the mess is just starting as their will be a global anti Chinese (CCP) movement. China had over 50 million tourists (140 million trips) in 2018 and 2019 have not been published yet. With massive layoffs in the inbound industry, the Chinese don't have the money to come to Thailand as they have other problems.

 

Thailand has counted on the Chinese and they are gone. The Indian's and Russians face massive problems on their own so Thailand can say good bye for 2020.

 

Vietnam will be a big winner of this crisis and both China and Thailand will be hit back to the 90's.

 

Vietnam also will be a strategic partner in the next few years for the Western countries and as Thailand is to close in the bed with the Chinese and Thailand's time has passed. A lot of hotels are on the market in Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Samui to be converted into condo's (a reason to fire the staffs) so if Thailand and China is lucky they can look back to the tourism numbers of the 90's to start again.

 

The Thai people that lost their jobs and have no income will look for a leader to bring them out of the mess but it certainly will not be Prayuth and his team. Thailand will be very politically unstable in the next 2 years to come but I guess the same will be in China as the communist and good friends of Thailand in Beijing will be even in a bigger mess.

 

Thailand has been treating foreigners very badly in the beginning of the pandemic thanks to that Health Minister of Thailand and with a new democratic government they might have a chance to get a slice of the cake in 2022 but Vietnam will be the next tiger in ASEAN and as well Malaysia, Singapore, possible Indonesia and the Philippines. Thailand really is irrelevant in the current time and no one gives a damn except the foreigners such as me that have a kid and family here.

 

My Prediction for the remaining year and 2021.

 

1) American's will look for Mexico (beaches) and Canada and the Canadians will do the same so the market is gone.

 

2) Russia if they still can afford it will visit Turkey, Egypt and possible Croatia etc but nothing in Asia.

 

3) East Asia (excluding China) the destination of choice will be Vietnam.

 

4) Australia and New Zealand will visit each other country and I doubt the Australians even think about a holiday in Bali as Queensland has great and CLEAN beaches.

 

5) Europe they will travel within the EU once the situation allows it.

 

The Arabs will be completely staying away from Southeast Asia and I doubt they even want to come for medical tourism. 

 

Thailand is irrelevant but so will be Malaysia, Cambodia, Myanmar.

 

I doubt Prayuth and his group will be in power in a year time and Thailand has to reinvent itself again but it might be to late.

Its not about the death rates. Thailand doesn't have a high death rates. The points is the world has other problems and doesn't care about Thailand. This article is about Thailand and not the some death rate.

 

The OP was about Chiang Mai that Chinese want to come again to Thailand. They will not come or maybe on 1 Dollar tours.

As far as I know China has rather well managed/contained the epidemic in the country, with the few new cases being now people coming back from abroad;

So probably less risky today to get Chinese tourists than tourists from Europe or USA...

and these tourists have nothing to do with the fact that this virus first appeared in China and the way China managed it.
