Boat operators will be pressed to arrange Covid-19 preventive measures in boats as well at piers.

Deputy Minister of Transport Athirat Rattanaset has ordered the Marine Department to collaborate with Saen Saep Canal’s boat operator.

Athirat, together with Marine Department director-general Wittaya Yamuang, ministry executives and the operator, visited piers along the route on Thursday (May 7) to check the boat service operation, after lockdown measures in Bangkok were eased and passenger numbers increased.

He ordered boat trips to be increased to 60 times a day, instead of 40, at intervals of 3 to 5 minutes. Besides, social distancing symbols must be marked in the boats, with a distance at least one metre between passengers.

Moreover, CCTV cameras must be installed at the piers for monitoring passenger numbers and the number of passengers on every trip.must be limited by boat staff.

Meanwhile, preventive measures, such as the wearing of masks or checking of temperature should continue as before.
