Trump campaign launches $10 million ad blitz against Biden

(Reuters) - President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign launched a massive, multi-million dollar ad blitz against presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Thursday, its biggest onslaught against Biden since the coronavirus pandemic hit the United States.

With Biden’s campaign beginning its own offensive against Trump – insisting November’s election must be a referendum on the Republican president’s handling of the coronavirus crisis – the Trump team has decided to turn its sights on Biden’s own record.

The president's campaign will spend at least $10 million (£8.1 million) on nationwide ads that will air on TV networks, broadcast outlets and online, according to an aide who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The Trump campaign has decided https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-usa-election/blame-china-remake-economy-trump-pivots-to-new-election-message-amid-pandemic-idUSKBN22J1GT that blaming China for the pandemic is one message that resonates with many voters, and it is using Biden’s own record on China as a way to attack him. The coronavirus outbreak began in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

In one ad, the Trump campaign accuses former Vice President Biden of opposing travel restrictions on foreign nationals coming from China that Trump announced in January, saying that Biden will not “stand up” to the country.

The Biden campaign denounced the message. Andrew Bates, a Biden spokesman, pointed out that Trump had earlier praised China for its handling of the coronavirus outbreak in January and February and accused him of having “horrifically mismanaged the worst public health crisis in over 100 years.”

Biden's campaign spent millions on ads during the Democratic Party primary and is expected to spend more in the coming months, along with aligned political groups. Some $1.7 billion is expected to be spent on ads in the 2020 Trump-Biden race, according to Advertising Analytics and Cross Screen Media, two advertising companies.

Since the pandemic struck the United States, over 70,000 Americans have died and over 30 million have filed for unemployment, the biggest and most rapid loss of jobs in U.S. history.

Recent polls have shown a tight race between the two, despite the health and economic wreckage wrought by the pandemic. In the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted Monday and Tuesday, 45% of Americans said Trump would be better at creating jobs, compared with 32% who thought Biden would be better at it. Overall, Biden’s recent lead over Trump had essentially vanished, according to the poll.

Before the first ads began airing, Trump’s campaign manager, Brad Parscale, sent a tweet likening their re-election campaign to the “Death Star”, a "Star Wars" reference to a space station that could destroy a planet. The Biden campaign pointed out that the Death Star gets blown up at the end of the 1977 film, the original movie in the "Star Wars" franchise.

This seems like overkill. Biden is not a serious threat. But spending a few bills to get Biden and his supporters flapping is probably worth doing at this stage, for comedic purposes if nothing else.

$10 million is a small portion of Trump's war chest. He needs to be careful not to empty out the clip because of the high probability he won't be running against China Joe.

As the poster said above, Biden will almost certainly not be the democrat candidate, if they have any sense whatsover they need to ram Gabbard in the position ASAP. She was the only electable candidate, but it was pointed out to me by a prolific poster here that she was a bad choice as she wasn't prioritizing the LGBT stuff enough. Oh well.

That way of thinking is typical for the Trumpers. And yes, violence is not something they want to avoid.

They are attacking Biden for the Tara Read- case!

As much as they are right to do it...are we REALLY sure, that Trump and the GOP have the moral highroad on this one?

Seriously?

Cambridge.org  defines bigotry as “the fact of having and expressing strong, unreasonable beliefs and disliking other people who have different beliefs or a different way of life:”

Do you agree in a normal functioning society bigots are normally considered to be ignorant?

Do you think the stereotyping of a group of people is a form of bigotry?

Do you have credible evidence supporting your statement “ That way of thinking is typical for The Trumpers” and while you are backing up your statement how can you possibly have knowledge that “violence is not something they want to avoid”

Consensual vs non-consensual? You are confused about which of those 2 constitutes the moral "highroad"? Seriously?

You have to wonder about the effectiveness of running any adds , when you look at the 100s of millions that Mini Mike spent....maybe minds are already set....they do seem to be on here............

See the post I reacted to, and see Trump's statements regarding violence against protesters and media at his rallies.

Did anybody in the country ever thought about changing the way they vote?

Trump is obviously worst case but Biden is not exactly inspiring.

How many voters would prefer another candidate from the GOP. I am not a fan of that party but I am sure they have lots of people who are better than Trump.

And if people's only realistic choice is to vote for Biden if they don't want Trump that is also not exactly a good sign.

With > 300 million people there must be a couple of people who would be a better president.

I did read  the opinion of one poster, how does that possibly classify as typical behavior of “The Trumpers”

Does the behavior of one anti-Trump poster who called for beating President Trump with a bat, or the American poster calling for violence against President Trump during his UK trip make all  Trump haters violent?

Your statement was “that way of thinking is typical for Trumpers” you are merely backtracking now and failed to address any of my questions regarding your original quoted post.

One more question, would you seriously let the opinions of a proven bigot alter your decisions or hold them in any regard?

with the track record that he has, he can spend 10x more it won't solve his mistakes and contradictory information... better inject himself with disinfectant and ultra strong UV light

It's hard to believe this was the best we could come up with to face Trump. But as others have said, perhaps something might happen, and the Dems will be forced to replace him.

Don't wish too hard. Some DEMs would replace him with Hillary...

He needs to be a bit careful attacking China too much it may come back & bite him in the wallet.

Check out how much America owes China & just how important China has been in ensuring "the goose's

mates have been able to enjoy their wealthy lifestyles

Obviously to any sane person who reads the news. Tara Read may have looked OK once but she looks grim now, a fat sour faced old cow. Anything for a minute in the spotlight, I wonder who's funding her.

It's hard to take an article seriously on statistics, when it quotes one poll and suggests it stands for all. For a broader picture Real Clear always helps - see below.

Anything would be better than Trump, but I no longer have faith in voters. As the magnificent Baltimore Bard put it (Forgive the slight amendment - the sense is the same) No-one ever lost money by overestimating the stupidity of the American people. I just can't bring myself to bet on it.

If biden is so bad and trump is a shoe in why spend 10mil. Should donate that to a hospital or a charity.

Preferably not a trump charity as they tend to steal from them at the moment.

The term “moral highroad” is a talking point in politics similar to the phrase “protecting democracy”.

$10M is couch cushion change in a presidential campaign.

And what do her recent looks (or any looks for that matter) have to do with the allegation, that she was sexually assaulted by Joe Biden?
