JeffyInBkk
It amazes me as to how much they are only focusing on the tourist industry. Yes it contributed a lot to their GDP but they need to react fast to shift the focus to other industries. The tourism industry is a goner and will take take at least 5 to 6 years to recover considering the COVID 19 is going to be around for at least 3 years and the state of the global economy. It is stupid to listen to some old expat geezers from the industry trying to scam others in the industry for some loose change by proving their outdated consultancy services and keep on going around and spreading misinformation and fake hopes that the industry will recover in July from Chinese or whatever blah blah blag! JohnBZ
True, but we live in Thailand now and this is the place we care the most. No good news today: Malaysia just extended the ban of foreign entry till June 9. There is no lifting of foreign entry in SE asia in May so far. When will the regional bubbles come? Thailand tourist related industries can not survive another 2 months with their coming!!

If a Chinese, especially from a Tier-1 city, comes to Thailand, he thinks he is back in time for 15 - 20 years. Also in Bangkok. Well, the icing of the tourism cake - as far as Chinese outbound traffic is concerned - travels (..ahem ... travelled) to Europe, stayed in EUR 400+/night hotels; a very similar pattern as the wealthier Russians. The financially more challenged segment of Chinese traffic ends (...ahem ... ended) in Pattaya where lousy cold buffets were ransacked, snake shows and (not quite legal) ping pong shows were the name of the game. Back in time - then stay in Laos - back in time in an exotic mysterious place - then go to Myanmar ... Tier-1 travellers hardly enjoy the traffic jams of lower Sukhumvit in Bangkok or "Chinatown"; latter is better and more diverse back there where they come (... ahem ...) came from - me thinks!
