Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has thanked the Thai people for their collective efforts in making it possible for Thailand to achieve no new COVID-19 infections today.

In the meantime, he urged everyone to continue to be disciplined and to adhere strictly to all the measures imposed to prevent the spread of the disease.

He said that he is concerned about the safety of everyone and asked them not to lower their guard and continue to wear face masks outdoors, observe social distancing and regularly wash their hands with soap or sanitizer.

The Prime Minister visited Rakangkositaram Temple today, to pay respects to the abbot and to statues of late revered monks, and to visit a kitchen in the temple.

The Prime Minister also said that he is proud that several people have come forward to help their fellow countrymen, suffering from economic hardships, by donating to food banks, which are sprouting up in many provinces.

He, however, criticized those seen scrambling for food at several such places, without sharing with other needy people.

Meanwhile, Mr. Narong Song-arom, director of the National Office of Buddhism, said today that the Supreme Patriarch has ordered his office and temples, which are financially stable, to set up kitchens to offer cooked food to the needy.

Currently, 914 kitchens have been set up in temples and they have been able to feed about 274,000 people a day, said Mr. Narong, adding that similar kitchens have been set up at Thai temples abroad.

It is reported that some temples are considering opening drive-through kitchens or mobile kitchens in poor communities.

It's kind of strange that the government doesn't take direct action here isn't it?

Or is it? In order to take action they must first admit that the people of Thailand face starvation without intervention.

They're not going to want any part of that, so they use the temples.

How can we believe that there are no new virus case ? just because he said so ?  Never hear statements from the Chief Health Adviser, only government officials. Thailand is a big country with one of the biggest ratios of liars.  Waiting for some made up BS figures from TAT tomorrow !

When you have them by the private part, the hearts and minds will follow. A year in jail for being on a beach ?? Hey, I am going to comply Thank you ! Which beach would you like me not to be seen strolling along, well distanced from other non-beach-goers ?

Thank you Khun Prayut Chan O Cha for enforcement and containment measures that ultimately lead to minimal transmission and infections within Thailand.

Thailand has done an excellent job in curbing the COVID-19 virus thanks to Khun Prayut's restrictions.

Irrespective of the personalities involved, it is good to see someone praising the authorities for what they HAVE achieved, rather than taking cheap shots at what might not have been done. In my home country I am appalled that all and sundry (including the media) only focus on negatives. These are unprecedented times and no one had a blueprint that was 100% foolproof.

Stop making me gag please Steven100, we all know that you sympathize with this government as many others also do, but the people have done nothing that they have not been forced to do, and a failure to test at a higher level outside of being sick or a PUI, does not help people to know what the true picture is.....Smoke and mirrors....

Testing is irrelevant unless you just want to increase your case numbers - look at Russia, highest testing rate so higher cases, but the important measure ie deaths is one of the lowest.

You don't direct your resources to those with mild infection, you reserve that for savings lives of the most vulnerable and worst affected.
