Pattaya: Flooding widespread as rain lashes resort

Pattaya: Flooding widespread as rain lashes resort

1pm.jpg

Thai media 77kaoded reported that heavy summer rains lashed Pattaya yesterday leaving many roads unpassable.

Pictures of motorists being helped to wheel their vehicles off the roads were plenty.

Particularly badly hit were Sukhumvut, the road by the railway and Soi Khao Noi.

Drainage work is ongoing in Pattaya with officials hoping that this will solve the resort's long standing flooding issues.

More could be on the way. Weather conditions until May 18 could see more misery for Pattaya and the rest of upper Thailand.

I thought the endless road works had fixed the drains.

  • " expected to be able to drain and prevent Pattaya from being affected by rain and causing no floods in Pattaya. " As much chance of that happening as Prayut making Thaksin Deputy Prime Minister.

  • Every  year.

Meanwhile many houses in Pattaya have no water because of the drought.

103 FM radio report that the beach remained intact. Just a quick downpour here in Naklua, nothing spectacular.

Isn't finished yet, the pipes are mostly blocked with sand anyhow.

Good news. Its safe to go out now.

The outside areas will all be cleared of that dreaded virus that is killing so many people here.

Yes, it was kind of funny watching my neighbour opposite standing in the rain while a tanker truck filled up his empty water tank. Just adds insult to 200 Baht of misery.

Yeah, most journalists have that exact paragraph ready in their cut and paste to save time.

Drainage works,  or no Drainage works,  until  they stop throwing garbage onto the streets  and  the Bin men do their job of collecting garbage, which they don't ,  there will always be floods in Pattaya, every Drain  is covered with garbage, so how can the rainwater run into the drain....it can't,    so we have floods every year ...

A video from the Pattaya One facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pattayaone1/videos/1465042020344601/

That deluge yesterday was the first time I've seen the drains in the village overflow.

Normally you have to drive down Soi Khao Noi to around the Mike Orchid Villa housing complex before seeing the drains full and flowing back onto the road. But yesterday they were backed all the way to the Chill (at least) and into our "village".
Must have been quite the raging river by the time it got to the storm grates at the railway bypass road !
But then, it's like that every time anyways.

Just like how Sukhumvit floods by the Pattaya Tai intersection every time despite the massive drainage ditch in the middle.

And 2 hours after the rain ended, the streets were dry and the drains (up here) empty again.

No pics from Beach Road or the area where they are doing all the work though. Too bad. I remember pics from years ago where it was like one of those "infinity" pools from the sidewalk in front of the bars until the edge of the walkway where the water dropped onto the beach. You couldn't see where the road, curb or speedbumps were !

What's the current position of the beach is a danger to shipping yet ????
