The last Covid-19 patient left Thammasat University’s field hospital on Saturday night 51 days after it was opened, Prinya Thaewanarumitkul, the university’s Vice Rector for Sustainability and Administration (Rangsit Centre), posted on his personal Facebook page.

The entire medical team as well as housemaid and security guard bid the female patient bye with smiling faces, marking the completion of their duties, said Prinya.

In the 51 days since the field hospital was opened, 38 Covid-19 patients were treated and 22 suspected cases were sent for monitoring of symptoms. The facility had been prepared to treat 300 patients, but effective measures have helped control the outbreak in Thailand.

Sanam Thammasat Hospital will be closed but remain in standby mode. If a second outbreak occurs, especially in the rainy season when the danger is more, the Thammasat field hospital can be reopened immediately.

“Most importantly every medical staff, including the butler at the field hospital which is me who regular sleeps here, are ready to operate immediately,” Prinya said in the post.
