Local education officials are knocking on doors nationwide in an effort to solve problems with the distance learning programme launched by the government on Monday (May 18).

Amnat Wichayanuwat, Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) director-general, said officials from each local education office will survey students and their parents, family by family, and suggest the best ways for them to access and benefit from distance learning. The officials will also survey problems in schools.

The biggest problem encountered by families during the first three days was difficulty tuning in to the Distant Learning Television (DLTV) channel.

OBEC has addressed the issue by asking the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission and the Digital Economy and Society Ministry to provide 2 million families with set-top boxes so they can access the channel.

The director general added that OBEC has asked DLTV to improve the quality of its courses after public complaints about the lessons being broadcast by the channel. The office will also procure English teachers from Regional English Training Centres to support the Distance Learning Foundation’s teachers.

Same - same. Everything here is ass about face. Surely, they should have been aware of these issues before they started this nonsense.

Also, what happened to the internet initiative where all villages got free internet. The mast from TOT is across the road from my house, except it only works within 10 metres! What a complete waste of billions of baht. Useless, the lot of them. ????

But you can be sure - that somebody earned big from them. ????

The teacher in charge of setting up students in our district with the class channels came to our house and said we had an older satellite box.  We need the new box that has those channels available.  600฿ to order through him, he said it sells for 1,500฿ if you buy in the store.  My wife went to pick up the study book and daily worksheets Tuesday.

The teacher just got finished hooking up the new box.  I Turned on the air conditioner in the living room for the niece to start learning.  I bet she will miss it once she starts back at school.

Are you sure they're talking about foreign teachers and not Thai English teachers.

The only distance issue is the one between the government in their ivory tower based in Bangkok and the population right across Thailand.

They believe that every household has a TV, computer, internet/wifi and are ready to go...

guess what Mr Prayut.. not everyone lives in the lap of luxury like the elite who have everything.
