Could someone please clarify what I need for the money requirements for a marriage visa?

1. 400,000 in bank for 2 months 

OR

2.  40,000 per month income from outside into a Thai Bank for at least 12 months

Depending on your immigration office, they might insist on 3 months cause they don't know there own rules. Ask them first, and assume nothing.

 

Also, some offices won't even entertain the monthly option, so ask them first.

 

There are rules, but they are fluid, and up to the immigration officer that you get on the day.

Both methods you posted are possible when applying for a 1-year extension of stay of your Non Imm O marriage Visa.

When you apply in-country at your local IO for the 90-day Non Imm O marriage Visa (instead of extending your current Non Imm O marriage Visa or switching Visa type from retirement to marriage), you only need to have the 400K or one 40K monthly transfer in your bank-account on the day of application.  Then in the last month of that 90-day marriage Visa, you can apply for the 1-year extension and since that would be your very first extension application you would need to show either 400K kept for 2 months in your bank-account, or evidence of at least 2 monthly transfers of 40K.

Note: As @thequietman mentioned, it is wise to contact your local IO beforehand to enquire about the requirements, as your local IO might have additional or different requirements when applying for a Non Imm O marriage Visa or 1-year extension.

money need be 400 000 B in you bank account BEFORE visa 2 month, AND AFTER you take passport back whit new stamp, immigration checkin have you this money in bank. 2  time, you need new paper at bank. before and after. i hasmade now marry visa 4 time. 90 D report need do but go only 5 minit have ready simple fast job.

It's an 'average' of 40k/month when applying for a 1 year extension based on marriage, not at least 40k/month OR 400k in the bank 2 months prior to the application.

But, if you were, in fact, referring to a real, genuine McCoy visa of the non-immigrant "O" variety which you were intending to obtain from a Thai embassy or consulate in an adjoining ASEAN country, you would need to check specific financial requirements with the embassy or consulate in question. But the good news, if you were specifically planning a trip to Savannakhet for this purpose once borders had re-opened, is that there are no financial requirements in their case according to numerous reports on here!

You sure about that. I thought it had to be 40k + per month. Perhaps if one transfer appeared early following month might be OK..

The police order states a average income is allowed over a year that is 40k baht (480k baht minimum in total).

"(6) In the case of marriage to a Thai woman, the alien husband must earn an average annual income of no less than Baht 40,000 per month or must have no less than Baht 400,000 in a bank account in Thailand for the past two months to cover expenses for one year."

It would be annual income divided by 12 to get the monthly income.

But some offices will not accept it.

An average of 40K income over the preceding 12 months is what the regulations say.  According to UJ, average is mentioned there in order to allow for those on a work permit doing seasonal work with varying monthly income.

However, there are several reports of those on a Non Imm O marriage Visa that had their 1-year extension application refused when using the monthly-income transfer method while being well above 480K annually but slipping under 40K during a couple of months. 

It seems that some immigration officers do not understand this 'average' requirement, and require at least 40K every month.
