This would be a good opportunity for the authorities to stop the prostitution. It's illegal anyway, but not enforced. Allow them to re-open as long as there are no "bar fines" and girls going out. The girls can chat in the bar, but not go with customers for other services.

Wow,

What a great idea!

I am sure that will work!

Have you any idea of the base salary of ' bar girls ' without bar fines and going off with customers?

So, let's all gather for a game of social distanced connect 4?

Meanwhile, people starve to death and lose their businesses and homes that they worked their entire lives for.

Thankfully where I am in the USA, the government has figured out that they MUST open.

We are now in Phase 2, 50% capacity for dine-in restaurants, spas, nail salons, and hair care as well as all retail open again.  No dramatic spike in cases.   In fact, all across the US, the temporary Covid hospitals have been dismantled.

The only people here in the US who think it is "too early" are the ones collecting $995USD per week in unemployment.  Less than one out of three customers wear a mask.  One out of three customers will use sanitizer upon entry.

It is NOT too early.

That is what you think, in Thailand they opened up a lot already. Did they open up bars in the US ? In Thailand they opened all those things you talked about but just not bars.

Beer bars are dangerous because of the girls that mingle with all the customers and the fact that people will not wear masks in them. Most places people still requre masks.

I am still working and most Thais are working too. Around here most are back to work but apply social distancing and masks. Two things that are really hard to do in bars.

But fun to see that people who are not even here make comments while they don't even know what is open and not. So far its just bars that are not open. Hardly a problem besides for punters and some staff.

You need to see the motives. They are low yes.  They are simply starving  them out of Pattaya. COVID is <deleted> excuse. They have plans with the Chinese rodents. To build a casino. The Mall is a decoy. All the infrastructure  new hotels roads points there. They will announce that much later..When they destroy everyone 100%.

They don't give a f about Thais. That tourism minister believes woman don't come because entertainment lol..We have entertainment in our own countries. The Chinese lady spending up big in 7 lol. Never replace farang investment. Domino effect.  She is brain dead.

Er, ALL pub in thailand closed.

But you think should open ladyboy bar in Pattaya because you special?

Please think. This rule not about you, sex tourists etc. It to reduce covid. Pattaya is so small, most Thais not care about it.

You not important. TJ bar and the German owner not important. The wife can cry, other bar/pub can not open.

Close all the thai pub for build Chinese casino in Pattaya? BS

ps. I know you not like me, but your posts this thread the best sure. Big picture understand. True story.

Thankyou.

In the meantime no need for a BeerBar to get a beer.

In the close neighbourhood of my home, at the DarkSide of Pattaya, I can have a beer in 3 different "Bar/Restaurant".

If you are HiSo, you can even sit together with 4 at one table. (See my post on another topic).

Of course I will be glad, when I finally would be able to drink my beer in a glass.

I would avoid glasses for a while and drink out of the bottle since I have seen how some bars clean them. I also would avoid peanuts and other snacks that are often used again and again. But if I am honest I will avoid bars at all. I don't need the often insane noise to have a (n overpriced) drink with some friends.

Thanks,

I go usually to places they give me each time a new glass coming out of the fridge at every beer I order.

Don't eat peanuts ( 71+, bad denture ).

Avoid places where music is loud.

Really enjoy one of the places I visit now,

new, clean, air-con, soft jazz music in the background, have only Big Leo for the moment, 120 ThB, a deal in my opinion.

Then you walk around with your nose sticking out of your mask and infect every around you.

It's not about personal choice when you can potentially harm others.

No different from a smoker demanding to be able to smoke and polluting the air around him.

Why the obsession with sitting in those places anyway?

You have bought into the Zombie Apocalypse. Covid is gone. Some people just cannot seem to wrap their minds around the fact that it was beaten here, and is gone. There is no contagion, nor the continued need for masks, gloves, social distancing and other precautions, when the virus is not here. Accept it. Embrace it. Rejoice.

Remind me again where the infection will come from........... escapees from quarantine?

Thailand does have infected people living in it, did you know that?   It only takes one infected person to infect hundreds in a bar setting.  This infection spreads very easily, especially in crowded places.

So let's run your experiment:

Week 1:  zero infections.  Authorities open the bars.

Week 2:  one infected person from somewhere shows up in one of the bars.   Infected 100 people.  Those people bring the virus home to grandma.

Week 3:  there are now 100 infected people in Pattaya.  Bars are still open, official numbers still say zero infections.

Week 4:  there are now 1000 infected and the first reports start coming in.

By week 5, Pattaya will look like the US looks now.  And Grandma is now in the ICU, only not, because she can't afford it.  She dies.  She is the first one.

The reason there are so few infections in Thailand is precisely because they are restricting people from doing STUPID things like gather in bars during a pandemic.  If they allow these gatherings, then the one or two infections in Pattaya will become hundreds and then thousands.  This infection spreads very very easily.

Does that help?

I hope someone can compile and post a list of the bars that have continued to support and not layoff their staff during this period. They would be the ones I will support, once the government takes their heads out of their as.es and open the bars.

Your scenario is flawed in that week 2 no bars will have 100 patrons.

That does indeed seem to be the case. This army seems to be populated by false puritans, who have this vision of making Thailand into a vision of their pure selves. A bit like a Thai Neo-Con agenda. Of course we all know the truth of the matter. Yet, they are deluded into thinking they are people they are most definitely not, and are inflicting their self righteous beliefs upon the nation. Truly a holier than thou group of fools. Very similar to the evangelical leaders in the US. And it is not even about farang or local. I think they would just assume all bars close. If it puts millions out of work, it is not really that important, as they were lower income workers anyway, and they are not really considered to be of importance, nor are they the people the army was sworn to protect. We all know who those people are.

And as is the case with everything this administration does, no thought is given to the bigger picture, the long term view, or the value of the money that these gals earn, when it is sent and spent upcountry. Again, upcountry does not count for much, though they represent the majority. The poor here are scorned and ignored. Why do you think Thaksin was so immensely popular?

Right, scientists and doctors are making this all up.  Like climate change and cancer from cigarettes, it's all just lies invented to keep you from enjoying yourself.   Maybe protecting people from this pandemic is more important than your desire to drink in a club.  You have the luxury perhaps of not knowing any vulnerable people, or maybe you just don't care if they die, I don't know.  But this is no time for denialism.  The earth is round, the CIA lies, and this is a global pandemic.

Why do you think the virus particularly targets the bars?

Markets and  BTS for example are open and are crowded places

why do you think they are safe places?

But the infection hasn,t spread by folks using the MRT or BTS in Bangkok where at times they are packed in like sardines....go figure

Yes, and good point, but I avoid the BTS during the pandemic.  I have the luxury of not needing it as I use a motorbike.

The difference between the BTS and the bars is

A) They don't sell alcohol on the BTS

B) A girl won't sit on your lap and make out with you on the BTS

C) you don't need bars to get to work and feed your family.

So while riding the BTS is also risky, the risk is lower because of the points above in my opinion and those of the policy makers in Thailand, who are managing things very well as evidenced by the very low infection rate in LOS.

Just now, petermik said:

Crowds is not the only factor.  Alcohol is the other critical element.  Go figure.

Nice to see someone who can actually think for themselves and realise that the "agenda" no longer has anything to do with the virus ????

I would say that it's not about "enjoyment" but control though!

At war with their Culture Minister? Really?

The pimps are up in arms. Disgusting spreaders of disease and I don't mean just COVID-19.

Many of the mind that they should be able to do anything they want, as long as it produces cash.

That in turn encourages the corruption about which they complain.

As an aside, I notice that some of the brothels ARE open.

Because they sell alcohol in bars, which makes people act irrationally and take extra risks.  These are very well known effects from alcohol.

The BTS and the malls are open.  I have not ridden the BTS during the pandemic, but in literally every mall and restaurant that I have been to in Bangkok, they are doing their best to implement social distancing rules and there are no crowded areas.  I have heard the BTS is too crowded, and this is not safe.  The answer for one unsafe situation is not to add more unsafe situations, in my opinion.

I find it strange how people somehow can comment on the Thai government not doing enough tests and thinking there are transmissions but hidden and that figures dont add up. However when it suits them they believe the government that there are no local corvid transmissions if it helps their case.

IMHO corvid is still out there just not found by testing and opening bars and forgetting social distancing will start a second wave.

So either you believe the goverment that there is no corvid out there and we should open it all up forget about all measures and return to our previous lives or you believe (like i do) that its still out there but that the government just does not find it because of lack of testing and opening up would be a problem.

I too want to go back to pre corvid but I think its still too early.

I'm quite content as thing are at the moment .Where will Thais get the money from to drink in these bars when 7/11 is available.
