Khun Prayut Chan O Cha has handled the COVID19 situation exceptionally well, the stringent measures put in place worked to ensure minimal to zero transmissions or infections occurred.

Yawn over your continuous fawning over a well dressed military strongman who did not handle the crisis as well as Cambodia, Vietnam or possibly Malaysia.  How many actually died on Laos?  Does anyone know? Perhaps Laos out did Thailand.  He allowed Thai Airlines to become a laughing stock under his rule, so when Thailand does open for tourism, the national carrier will not be ready.  Other than his foppish wardrobe, there is nothing exceptional about cha cha.

  • "without the need to quarantine the visitors after their entry"   Several of us have predicted in here that, soon, Chinese tourists will be able to come here without the quarantine requireme

  • Ypur wife's income obviously doesn't depend on foreign tourism. My wife instead has 2 businesses, depending very much on foreign tourism and has a totally different opinion than yours. And me, too.

Be nice to get the people that are still stranded abroad including the expats that have families here back home first. That should be job one ! Instead it's more and more red tape and lip service. Thousands are still stranded in the middle east with low Covid deaths and should be allowed to return poste haste...Instead it's become " how much can you pay"?  being the priority...

"Discretely" let Chinese back in unrestricted while onerous

requirements for westerners few will be able to comply with.

So they will probably never come back...for lack of a vaccine...

Otherwise, yes China and South Korea, plus Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam and Malaysia...the latter bringing millions of visitors every year who just have to cross the Southern border in the weekend in order to enjoy some fun...

The powers that be are quite happy not to let Farangs back regardless of the virus I'd say...

Don't know about you but I'd pay just about any price and jump through more hoops than shamu at sea world to get back

you maybe correct on those countries .... I doubt UK, US or Europe will be added until they are certain COVID has been contained.

with the demo's that happened in Oz yesterday, in the next 14 days we will see if demonstrating gives immunity from covidvirus or not.
if there is a spike in cases as has happened previously when groups pf people got together then i guess Oz won't be in that bubble.
the Chinese will be the first allowed back in.

The Governor of Tourism Authority of thailand, Yuthasak expected that the first groups of travellers to Thailand would be from the Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conventions, Exhibitions segment and health conscious travellers.

can someone tell where the Governor has this brilliant knowledge from ? Usually the Incentive Travel, Conventions etc are the very last to return in such a crisis.

i doubt he knows what he is talking about here

While Europe is getting back to normal, Thailand keep thinking we are dealing with the Bubonic Plague.

I don't like a military government but they've done a good job. I'm glad I don't live in the UK which has the highest number of deaths per capita in the world with a government that's completely bungled everything regarding the pandemic.

North Korea has done a good job as well.

It does!

And not only that, but demonstrating also creates millions of jobs and helps sending the stock market indexes to the Moon.

Much better than a vaccine, demonstrating is the solution to everything!

MICE visitors welcomed first? To congregate in meetings? Great idea. I would have thought they should be last on the list.

Just listeningto a recorded conference call with management leadership today

Demand is slowly increasing People want to visit relatives and Disneyworld but

large scale meetings and conventions will be the last thing to recover.

Maybe never without a vaccine. Telework and virtual meetings are the new normal.

Perhaps something for you to listen too, think there are some pictures, so you will be OK.

This Doctor has made quite a few vids on the subject, and would recommend you watch till the end of each.

Also those who talk about their freedom and masks may learn something....????

I was talking to my wife today and she brought up tourism.
Her take is that most average Thais want the borders pretty much shut permanently to all foreigners (outsiders) and only allow domestic tourism.

You mean Most Average Thais are Insular Nationalists ?

Please ask your wife to pray tell us more.

Now that sure does place a meaning on the double charging, it’s a wonder they don’t have ‘Tourism Apartheid’.

I can show you plenty of doctors saying this is nothing more than a flu and not a concern for majority of population. So?

Typical reply as you haven't watched the videos in that short time, just because it doesn't fit your agenda............ :coffee1:

That is true.  She's solidly a middle class Thai retiree now.  So, her version is probably more in-line with the sentiments of other middle class Thais who don't depend on tourism-centric sources of income.
If you're to believe the statistics issued by Thai ministries that the unemployment rate is only 10%, then no doubt a lot of those 10% depend on tourism for a living.  However - 90% of Thais do not.

Pre-Covid, about 15% of Thai GDP came from tourism.
