Several of us have predicted in here that, soon, Chinese tourists will be able to come here without the quarantine requirement while the rest of us will have to comply. It's coming to fruition.

Already set myself up with everything (the last lot of everything) only to have flights cancelled from Australia March 25th.

I made Thailand my home, took a thai partner and her children, built a family home, even working there before retirement.

Should count for something when they decide to open up again. 

(But this is Thailand).

I too had this prediction - I can't really criticise such a decision - Permitting quarantine entry of tourists from those nations with low numbers is the only viable compromise in attempting to keep Covid-19 levels low and kick-starting the vital tourist industry.

 

Unfortunately, this doesn't assist those of use from Western nations who are either outside of of Thailand *(unable to enter) at the moment or those Westerners currently in Thailand who need to travel for work.

 

I see a fairly turbulent 12 months ahead (perhaps longer) with regards to freedom of travel into Thailand with a great deal of inconsistency in policy and restrictions according to your passport.

Planes have to travel both ways so some incentives would be needed to get Japanese to come to Thailand.

Thailand just need to open the bars and have everything in bars heavily discounted say 50%: Japanese will flock back to Thailand as everything here would be peanuts compared to Tokyo.  .

 

Let the Japanese come or anybody for that matter.  Just curious that why the entry policy is decided by the people who do not suffer the consequences of no tourism industry in Thailand. Why not we have everyone vote on this issue.

There are no lockdowns in China now.

 

The figures are 130 hospitalised, 236 quarantined and 1776 PUI. As of 3.56 this afternoon.

One criticism of such a decision would be that the numbers coming out of China seem specious. Look at the number of daily cases reported there via Worldmeter and tell me if you think that graph represents objective reporting or sudden stopping of reporting...

To have a graph look like that in the context of all the data seen elsewhere, in my mind, a reasonable question would be why is that happening that way? The repetitive answers (hot weather, Thai discipline with wearing masks and distancing, wonderful leadership, somtam, vitamin D) just don't seem compelling as explanations. Openness with testing capabilities and the process of confirming tests would settle those questions and make it easier to decide one way or the other.

No fun in the sun at the beaches right now, its the monsoon season and those days of sun and no wind are few and far between.  Just saw the Sunday evening news and they were down at Baeng Saen beach and also in Chonburi, the weather was windy, and sky gray, however the Thais were in the water and grouped up on the chairs under the umbrellas.....

Let us open our businesses first & have a trial run with "locals only" first before thinking

What is really disheartening for a country I considered has a heart, is no talk of all the expats stranded who are not looking at a leisurely trip at their own convenience, but are completely and utterly desperate to get back. 

We are renting homes- paying double rents because of being stranded, others own homes, have lives, families and cannot come back.  But all I read daily is nothing about us. 

Business people are being allowed back now with expensive quarantine.  But those of us in the middle - expat farangs, feel we have been ignored and discarded.  Like we are unwanted trash.  Maybe that is what we are?

It truly is saddening.  I really hope I am wrong and the true heart of the Thai people give us priority to get back before the eventual tourist swarms.

It makes a lot of sense but it's also quite funny to see here on this forum how most guys IN Thailand want to keep tourists out for as long as possible. And the people outside want to get in as soon as possible.

I wonder if it is based on passport or residence.  I need to travel to Thailand in September/November, have a US passport for have been living in the Philippines.

     If you look at TAT tourist numbers, the largest numbers are from ASEAN countries and other Asian countries, excluding China.  China is its own category alone and is number two.  All of Europe is lumped together and is third.  I think it makes perfect sense for Thailand to initially concentrate on Asia as tourism opens up once again, with possibly Australia and New Zealand thrown in. 

     Most of the Asian countries have had lower virus numbers and many of the tourists will be  enduring shorter plane rides wearing masks than those coming from the US or Europe.  And, it works both ways.  My partner and I will likely take a quick non-stop plane flight to, say, Vietnam but we won't be traveling 20 hours on two planes and enduring three airports to visit America right now.

My god, we are 23 days away from 2nd half of this year! At least, he apparently said "THIS year", unless that was said mistakenly and he meant 2021, 2022 or so.....
