I'm filling out my non-o application and want to make sure I get everything right for when I take it to the consulate:

At the top of the application form I have stated my purpose of visit as 'Visiting family' is this adequate?

I want a multi-entry visa so do I mark the application as 'M' for multiple or do I guess how many entries I might want?

In the section where I am asked for my date of departure from the UK & date of arrival in Thailand, do I need to know exactly when or can I leave this blank?

Next up is 'proposed duration of stay' I obviously want to get the most out of my visa so do I say 15 months or 90 days?

Next is 'evidence substantiating purpose of visit' here I thought about writing 'sons birth certificate' is this correct?

And finally, on the payment form should I include the £10 charge (for applying in person at the consulate) when I write that I'm including the £90 visa cost?

Thanks in advance for your help!

What visa application form are you talking about? Can you post a link to it? Each consulate has its own form.

And what are the GBP 10 about?

Visiting family sounds good.

M for multiple visits, it's either that or single. If you take Multiple you probably want to put in validity one year as well.

Departure date basically becomes a "valid from" date for the visa. If you get one years validity it will be counted from that date.

Duration of stay .. not sure, I'd try for 15 months. I just got a 3 months visa and got it extended to a year based on marriage.

Evidence .. normally that is a marriage certificate. There are some discussions regarding children on this forum you might want to check.

Don't know what the 10 squid is about, never heard about it before.

Correct I would also put (son) in brackets

That's what it says on the top of this form

Put a close date (needn't be exact) as you will have to arrive within 3 months of the date of issue of the visa
Next up is 'proposed duration of stay' I obviously want to get the most out of my visa so do I say 15 months or 90 days?
Maximum stay is 90 days so put 90 days
Next is 'evidence substantiating purpose of visit' here I thought about writing 'sons birth certificate' is this correct?
That's what you are submitting so that sounds correct.

What's all this about £10 for applying in person? Cost is £90 never heard about add ons.

Thanks for the replies, below is an exact copy of the email I received from Guy Taylor from the Consulate in Hull:

"By bringing your application to us in person it can be processed and completed as you wait. You will need to bring your application form, passport, a recent passport sized photograph and the fee. There is an additional £10 charge for this service. Please read/print the attachment and revert if you require further assistance."

I suppose he is talking about applying for the visa in person :o

Thanks again, it never fails to amaze me how helpful people are on this forum :D

Hi guys,

I have two questions if I may, on the visa application form Under, Part 2 Visiting details,

1) Date(s) of previous visits ( do they still want to know if last visit was more than 12 months ago).

2) If purpose of visit is for, researching retirement, what would qualify as “substantiating evidence” .

1. A visa is valid from date of issue - the date you put for arrival does not change that (but if in distant future the Consulate would probably advise you to wait and make application closer to that date). So any approximate date is fine.

2. A multi entry (and I would write Multi Entry rather than "M") is normally valid for one year from date of issue. There is no requirement to enter in the first 3 months.

3. Yes, I am sure the 10 pounds is for personal service.

4. I would list last trip even if it was 20 years ago - at least the approximate date.

Then to answer your question

And finally, on the payment form should I include the £10 charge (for applying in person at the consulate) when I write that I'm including the £90 visa cost?
I would only mention the fee of £90. It sounds as though they have learned some Thai practices :o

An application in person to a consulate does not incur a 'service fee' but then it is not processed while you wait, it will be returned to you next day (so I guess the £10 is offset by the the 'special delivery' fee anyway)

Never done it but for "investigating retirement possibilities" I guess the date of birth in your passport is sufficient evidence on it's own.

I hope you're wrong Mahout Angrit, the guy in the email clearly said 'completed as you wait' :D

I'll post here about how I got on, I'm only in the UK from Thursday evening until Saturday evening so I was going to travel up to Hull on a return train ticket :o

I was referring to the 'normal' consulate proceedure, I have seen on here that Hull do a "special while you wait service" but nobody had mentioned a fee before.

You say you are travelling to Hull on the train. If you live nearer another consulate the service is normally next day if you collect yourself.

What other consulates are there? I thought there was only the Kensington Embassy and the Hull consulate?

I was quite looking forward to the train ride up there, it's only 2 1/2 hours and it's apparently a nice view :D

If there is another close by then I'll take it!

Last April I wanted a Non Imm O with the purpose of applying for long stay (retirement) after arrival, the consulate in Hull offered two services 1) send all documents and passport by recorded delivery and include pre paid return envelope also recorded delivery, cost £90 they broke it down as £45 for the visa and £45 for them to notarize my documents. There was a guarentee 24 hour turn around and thats exactly what happened , everything signed stamped and returned within 24 hours the 2) choice was to take everything to Hull consulate and they informed me their was an additional £10 charge for processing documents while I waited. As I lived a fair way from Hull I opted for the post method. Co-incidently when I then applied for my long stay visa in Pattaya they would not accept the UK medical certificate or proof of income both of which had been signed and stamped by the Thai embassy in Hull. No big deal, I visited a lcoal clinic and got two letters, one for my visa and one for my driving licence , cost 100 baht each, I also contacted the consul here in Pattaya (phone number etc provided by immigration) and he took my pension letters and the next day returned them along with a letter from the embassy confirming income, charge 1800 baht!! At immigration they took one copy of the embassy letter and told me to keep the original for next year when I re-apply well that happens next week so we will see what if any changes have been made!!

As promised my experience this week on re-newing my long stay visa: First thing I did was check with the British Consul on length of time left on passport as mine had only 9 months left, his advice was to renew the passport as I would not get a 12 month visa with a 9 month passport which I think makes sense so I applied to the embassy earlier this month and because of Easter Hols then songran it was not ready until last Monday. On collecting the new passport I was surprised to find they had rolled forward my unused time from my old passport thereby giving me 10 years and 9 months on my new passport. So on Monday on my return from Bangkok I went to my bank (The Bangkok Bank on Pratamak Rd) and asked for a letter of my account and balances for immigration, as before I asked for two copies, this was done as I waited at a cost of 200 baht. Tuesday morning at 8:25am I presented myself at Immigration on Soi5 Jomtien, I was No2 and was called to the desk immediately as the officer was dealing with two customers in tandem, first I gave him my application and both passports, he then transfered the detals of my current visa that expires on 28th April from the old passport to the new passport, there were no problems and I was not asked for an embassy letter confirming they had issued a new passport. (the embassy told me a letter is only required if they issue a new passport in lieu of one lost/stolen). The only hiccup was I had ommitted to photocopy one page, no problem said the officer, you go copy I wait for you!! This was done and all completed in 10 mins, he then processed my renewal application, no medical letter required, bank letter, application form, two photos, letter from embassy confirming income (in my case a pension) copy of bank book showing a balance (previously advised by immigration to have at least 40,000 baht in it) I guess this is to prove you have daily living expenses, copies of the current, previous and first pages of the bankbook, again I had missed one and was sent off to copy whilst he waited. I was then directed to a different desk to pay the fee (1900 baht) and returned to retirement desk with receipt, old passport returned everything completed and passed to the Captain, she checked everything and told me that next year I need a new letter from the embassy as my current letter has my old passport number on it but not a problem this year, I was given a ticket and told to return at 3pm. I left immigration having completed all this and it was 08:55! I returned at 3pm and was given my passport with a new visa (Ipresented the lady captain with a box of biscuits at this point!) I checked my (new) passport and found that I had been given a visa that expires one year after the previous one that is 28th April 2008, my 90 reporting form had been transfered with original reporting date of 30th May staying the same, my arrival card had been transfered and to my surprise my visa had a stamp on it that said "retirement" this was not the case last year. I also noted when I downloaded the forms from the immigration website the retirement form is called "application to stay in kingdom for rest of life"

So there you go, today I am a happy bunny as I expected some hiccups as last year it took two days to get my first long stay visa and I had factored this in when applying for renewal so I now have some free time and no stress. All done in half an hour with no questions raised and no problems. Any ????? pm me or post them here and I will reply.
