Bargains galore as hotels, spas and the TAT aim to kick-start tourism

The outlook for Thai tourism suddenly looks brighter, with the fourth phase of lockdown easing from June 15 accompanied by domestic-travel stimulus packages such as Kum Lung Jai (Encouragement) and Tiew Pun Suk (Trips to share happiness). The packages will be submitted to the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on Friday (June 12).

 

The tourism stimulus measures are scheduled for launch in July, and follow the Bt5,000 remedial handouts aimed at boosting the economy and helping overcome virus-related hardship.

 

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the private sector are also launching their own stimulus plans. Accor, which operates the Pullman and Mercure hotel chains, is offering discounts of up to 33 per cent, while Centara Group hotels in Bangkok, Rayong, Koh Chang, Phuket, Krabi, and elsewhere has rooms starting at Bt960 per night.

 

More bargains for travellers are being offered by online tourism expos.

 

Friday (June 12) brings the Online Travel Expo 2020, featuring more than 100 operators offering discounts of up to 80 per cent on accommodation and spa treatments. Among them are the Dhevan Dara Resort & Spa with Beach Villas from Bt3,000-Bt17,000, Dusit Hotels & Resorts with an extra night’s stay for free until 2022, and the Okura Prestige Bangkok with discounted Foot Scrub and Foot Massage packages from Bt688-Bt2,934.

 

The expo begins tomorrow at http://expo2020.worldrewardsolutions.com.

 

Meanwhile the TAT has teamed up the Line chat app for “TAT: Shop, Find, Eat, Travel around Thailand”. Held from July to August, this Line-based event will feature deals on hotels, accommodations, restaurants, spas, packages, tours, water parks and theme parks, as well as local products.

Exactly! Until the quarantine requirement is no longer an issue, people gonna stay at home.

 

dont understand why, after two months of lockdown, they need to incentivise people to take a holiday. in the uk, people are champing at the bit to get away for a few days holiday. but then maybe the lake district, cornwall, the yourshire dales, northumberland, scottish highlands, etc. are more attractive destinations than a litter strewn beach and grey coloured sea with plastic and other detritus floating in it - as was my experience the last time my thai friends too me to the beach for a holiday (they loved it! and never again)

They are obviously the white people who were left behind after the thai's only boat left

I was looking through some OTA's yesterday comparing prices and places I know, there is no huge discounts from what I can see

Sure, but seems to me there are more questions:

 

- My Thai son made inquiries about the 5,000Baht voucher. So complicated he decided to forget it.

  My son also mentioned:

- How many Thais have free time to travel right now - very small numbers, and

- How many can put an actual holiday on their plans right now (even with a 5,000BAht voucher)? - very small numbers.

- 5,000Baht voucher sounds good but there are 'holiday' costs which aren't part of how the voucher could be used. Therefore family needs normal cash in hand to be able to use the 5,000Baht voucher.

- Many Thais need to stay home/in their local community for the next many months and focus daily on finding food / survival needs / local community help activities.

The idyllic picture doesn't show the two dozen noisy water taxis.

As far as beaches are concerned, most Chinese prefer lots of fancy skyscrapers like in Doha and Dubai. The New York ones such as the classic Chrysler Building are too old and not tall enough.

Your are right. They are not entiteled to stimulous vouchers and cannot traqvel by train or Government busses. Paint them dark.

Until 1000s line up for free good handouts in the country, there is where stimulus should go.
