Hey

Can anyone shade some light on the following

The parents (both of them holding a work permit and a Non B) of an 11 year old girl want to apply for an ED visa for their daughter

She has been attending the International school for three years already.

The school has provided the necessary document for the immigration.

The family flew out of Thailand and back on February the first.

The daughter entered on a one month visa: as she is under 15 there was never any problems regarding her overstay.

Yesterday, the parents contacted an agent, to have the visa applied for, but it costs 3,500 baht for the service (which is ok ) on top of....22,000 Baht for the cost of the visa.

I think that the agency is charging 20,000 baht for the overstay (although it is, normally and usually, free of charge)

The parents are kind of reluctant to go there as there is the barrier of the language but I have advised them to go to the immigration at Chaeng wattana to apply directly there, where they should have to pay only for the issuance of the ED visa (roughly 2000 Baht)if I am not mistaken.

Am I correct? or should they expect to pay the 22,000 Baht asked by the agency

Also, I have been arguing that she will need to purchase multiple entry as she would lose her ED visa if she were to travel abroad and back. Correct me if I am wrong

Thanks for your time

The fee for the non immigrant visa is 2000 baht.

I don't think the 20k baht is for the overstay fine. it is to get the visa with an overstay (a under the table arrangement).

This from the top of the list of requirements for the application.

"IF YOU HAVE OVERSTAYED, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR THIS TYPE OF VISA"

Also there must be 15 days remaining on their entry to country.

She should of already been on an extension based upon being their family member since they are on extensions based upon working.

Thanks for the clarification

Quite a dilemma as they are planning to go to France in a couple of weeks for a month or so.

Upon their return, even with an ED visa, the daughter (under today's regulation and uncertainty) will not be allowed in the country.

Also it is my understanding that the Business visas' dependents are not allowed in (as in only the visa holder is allowed to enter the kingdom)

When they leave, if things get better then there will be no problems getting in with or without visa. If things stay as they then, she will not be able to enter the Kingdom (hopefully she will be denied boarding rather than being told here) . Either way, they will have roughly spent 25,000 Baht for nothing, don't you think ?

Under these circumstances what would you advise, knowing that the do have to go to France for family matters ?

It is unknown what will be required in 2 months or so.

She could apply for a non-o or non-ed visa while she is France. The non-o might be better since it would be based upon being a member of her parents (with extensions and work permits) family. A non-ed visa is not required to attend school.

No need to get the visa before leaving the country. She would also need a re-entry permit to keep it valid.
