Pattaya: Just another night in the "Family Resort" - drunk driver, threats to fight police, lynching, injuries, baseball bat

Pattaya is often mocked for trying to portray itself as a wholesome resort for families.

In the early hours of this morning a road accident revealed the city in all its seedy and violent glory.

Police were called after a completely drunk Vigo driver plowed into a motorcycle carrying a Chinese tourist, a BMW and a power pole.

When the cops and Sawang Boriboon rescue arrived at 2.30 am the driver of the Vigo - in his underpants - yelled "I am Chaiyaphon Phumkhong".

He wanted to challenge the officers to a fight.

They stopped him from being lynched by a furious mob of people who had gathered. He was taken away.

In his vehicle there was a baseball bat.

The driver of a Series 3 BMW said he had parked to go to the 7-Eleven at View Talay (Jomtien) on Theppraya Road Sai 2 when the carnage occurred.

A Honda Wave was on its side. The driver was only slightly injured.

But the Chinese passenger was in a grievous condition and was rushed to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital.

A passenger in the Vigo was also injured.

Another "don't you know who I am" no mark ! I hope Chaiyaphon Pumkin gets the book thrown at him.

  • Nice to see that TAT's campaign to go for domestic tourists and not farangs is paying dividends.  They proclaim they want " quality " tourists, they just need to define what sort of quality.

Why am I not surprised?

The  DIES (el)   seems quite apt.

Looks to me like it's facing the same way as the pickup. It was parked kerbside opposite the 7 eleven and was rear-ended by Captain Invincible in his souped-up pickup (in his shreddies).

Yes you are correct :shock1:

I only looked at this photo

which to me looks like the front of the BMW...should have looked at the others too before "jumping" to conclusions  !

Perfectly ordinary behaviour in these parts. ????

it will never change.........

so things are back to normal again in Pattaya

The underpants on display seem to

have a unpleasant hue.

A change wouldn't go amiss.

Yep.. another "go fast" pickup.. all show, no go. And watch out for the abrupt stops.  ????

I like the red bed liner though.

I think he was actually trying to help the police.

From what I can see there he'd been playing a very important baseball match & won so had a few beers to celebrate, he then forgot the time & was rushing back to his family to share in the good news when that parked BMW sweared out in front of him.

In preparation for the police he's undressed himself so there was less need of a search of his person & announced his name quite openly in anticipation of questioning.

Far play I say but best of luck to the poor Chinese fella & get well soon.

Some of the pics look just like normal parking to be fair????

baseball bat - drunk driving - above the law....................local thug

Pattaya roads are very dangerous from 1am - 7am - I'd estimate 80% of those driving are drunk

Because, of course, this kind of thing never happens in any other "family resort". Right ? :whistling:

Just because you call it a "family resort" doesn't make it one, nor does it suddenly make everyone in it start behaving as though they were in one.

And this probably only makes the news because the usual road carnage hasn't climbed back up to "normal" levels so there isn't many other, more gruesome, accidents to report on.
As they say in the media "If it bleeds, it leads !".

You mean ordinary behavior after drinking too much. Things were so much better during the alcohol ban ????

They need to reinstitute a stricter curfew

Ah, good to see that the 'old normal' is back.
