Air travelers in Thailand advised to use clear plastic bags for carry-on toiletries

What's already in place on all airports in Europe will now come to Thailand as well:

The Associated PressPublished: April 19, 2007

BANGKOK, Thailand: Travelers using Thailand's airports will soon be barred from carrying bottled water on planes and will have to pack their carry-on toiletries in transparent plastic bags, the civil aviation department said Thursday.

The new rules are expected to take effect in May, with a precise date still pending formal approval by the Ministry of Transport, said Chaisak Angkasuwan, the director-general of the Department of Civil Aviation

What a colossal stupidity all this is. Just shows what a damage TV (television) can do to the population of the planet and to their brains.

It all originated from UK, I am sad to see that. Their airport staff watch the same rubbish shows and got excited.

A total nonsense. Most of the time the security staff in carry-on x-ray are not even looking at their screens (suvinaphumi), so this measure is pointless. As it was in UK, where you can even bypass the shoe-scanner (LHR T3) now (I did, as the floor was disgusting and did not wish to walk on it in my socks) by simply walking off!

Gesture politics in the name of security...

Sorry, I was wrong in my first sentence about -just- Europe who implemented these rules...

The International Civil Aviation Organization has urged its 190 members to comply with the guidelines. Territories such as the United States, the European Union, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and the Philippines have already implemented such restrictions.

From the same website, above.

Hmmm...the rules are very strict these days indeed but I don't think it was originated in the UK but merely under pressure from the US but I cannot be 100% sure.

Nevertheless, I was taken away a very nice bottle of delicious Mekhong which was for 85% full, on Beijing Airport departuring on a domestic flight.... :D because it was opened. Another liquor bottle -closed- was allowed.... :o

They (SQ. CX, JL, ANA) have implemented a <deleted>. Knifes have always been there, never replaced with plastic.

Could be, the sad places you are at leave you to struggle with your crap TV shows?

And bankrupt, worst in the world airlines"?

Even Thai Airways can teach America a lesson or two.

Just retrieved that article from July last year.

"Toilet Terror":

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/08/17/fl...et_terror_labs/

Makes a knowledge based mockery of all the fuss.

I read that article too...sounds pretty far fetched. Won't be long until no luggage is allowed and you must board the plane naked. :o

All these rules come out of the fuzzy brains of the homeland security, who need to show that they are doing something for the multi billion $ cost of that idiot dept.

If you really want to have a look at good security measures, with functional multiple layer checks then look at El Al. These were devised under the high pressure of the M.E. situation.

Stupid little burocratic rules and regulations that are only there to assure that somebodies arsse is covered do more damage than good.
