Stray cat had a litter in my shed. Last thing I needed was a cat but there you go it needs looked after.

When the kittens started eating solids we had kitten food bought from the supermarket along with normal cat food for the mother.

A plate of each was put down and the kittens lifted and placed next to the kitten food.

They promptly walked over to the mother and started eating her food. Could not get them interested in the kitten food.

Kittens are thriving.

I'm sucker and fall for this stuff every time.

Not really sure that there is any difference in the food other than they make for pay more for 'thinking' you are doing the right thing.

We have my daughter visiting us at the moment, 12 weeks of Covid lockdown in her apartment with only her cat to talk to drove her a little stir crazy.

So the upshot we have our two cats plus hers, and of course I'm suckered into buying the 'multi cat' litter. The cats would probably pi$#s and po$%p in a tray of dirt. But of course I fall for the advertising hype!

I feed my cats a mixture of plaa tu ... biscuits (appropriate to cats age) and tinned tuna (pet food kind)..   The plaa tu are excellent cat food..  If you get them at the market the very small ones are very cheap.. usually 10 Bt for 3 or 4..

A month ago we took in a 2-month old feral tabby. He gets adult Whiskas wet food and dry food, all he can eat. He also gets a coupla tablespoons of goat's milk several times a day. He has doubled in size and spends all day wrestling with our beat-up old grandpa cat.

We have done this a few times before with 100% success. In 3 or 4 more months he'll get neutered.

Go to one of the  pet supply shops...they have a wide complement if specialized foods for all ages and conditions

And is all that food good for the cat?

Pet shops are full of things which some pet owners like but which is bad for the animals.

And pet shops and the pet industry make a fortune on all the unnecessary and often bad and overpriced sh#$.

Just two important guidelines for feeding outdoor cats:

- Cats only need meat. Nothing else.

- Once a cat gets fat, there's little to be done about it.

The plaa tu is a big hit with our tamed-but-still-feral cats. We tear out the backbone of the little mackerel because small cats can choke on it.

Plaa tu was a big issue when we moved our cat back to the US.

She had only eaten that when we lived in Thailand, and moving her to canned and dried food was tough.

But cats are smart, and hunger will always spur compromise!
