Deputy government spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek

The Cabinet on Tuesday (June 23) agreed to sign a pact on donating funds to the United Nations Covid-19 Response and Recovery Multi-Partner Trust Fund to help countries affected by the pandemic.

Deputy government spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek said the fund aims to raise US$2 billion and will be operated for two years.

“The Cabinet has given the Thai ambassador, who acts as a permanent representative of Thailand to the United Nations, to sign the pact with the United Nations Development Programme [UNDP],” she said.

“The Foreign Ministry has earmarked US$100,000 or about Bt3.3 million for the fund.”

She added that the move is part of Thailand’s contribution to the UN mission to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This is also an opportunity for Thailand to support the UN’s efforts to achieve sustainable development goals,” she added. “As of June, many countries, including the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland and Slovakia had contributed to the fund.”

It's incredibly nice of Thailand to contribute 0.005% towards the funds target.

If 20,000 other countries contribute the same amount they will meet their target of $2 Billion ????

They should support the poor population better here in the country.

Instead the big boys like to see their country being listed with Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland, Norway....
