'Fit as a butcher's dog', UK PM does press ups to show coronavirus recovery

LONDON (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Boris Johnson did some press ups to show he was "as fit as a butcher's dog" in an interview with the Mail on Sunday newspaper, just months after he fought for his life in hospital against the coronavirus.

Johnson, well known for staging eye-catching stunts during the campaign to leave the European Union and as London's mayor, used the interview to unveil plans to spend on infrastructure to help Britain "bounce back" after the coronavirus lockdown.

But the British leader was also keen to show he was returned to health after being in intensive care in April after testing positive for the coronavirus, a stay he described shortly afterwards as one which "could have gone either way".

"I'm as fit as a butcher's dog now," Johnson said, and after asking: "Do you want me to do some press-ups to show you how fit I am?", the prime minister, dressed in a shirt and tie, then got on the floor to complete some press ups.

"The country is going to bounce forward, and I certainly feel full of beans. Never felt better."

Excellent news. Good to see Boris has recovered, you can't keep a good man down.????

We'll need him more than ever over the next 6 months to ensure we don't get railroaded into a terrible deal with the EU again.

Does the UK want a deal? Really? It's so much easier to blame the EU for all the bad things that will happen.

And about Boris: Good that he is fit again. Does that mean he will from now on work full time? Or will he continue to do what the unelected Dominic tells him to do?

Well that depends on the deal doesn't it. We want a simple free trade deal that helps trade on both sides and respects each others status as a sovereign nation. Like all free trade deals.

If they want a deal that involves us subjugating ourselves to EU rules and the European Court of Justice, then they can forget it. No other free trade deal involves such stipulations and once again proves the lack of good faith that the EU has been demonstrating since we opted to leave their protectionist racket in 2016.

Your comments on one of Boris' advisors is juvenile so I won't stoop to that level to respond.

It appears many are jealous of the UKs maverick pm.

You mean like the deal with the US where we have to agree to buy poisonous food, pay more for medicines to swell the coffers of big pharma, etc etc? You don't understand trade agreements at all. EU rules, like not importing poisonous food, are sensible and good for us.

The Cummings comment was spot on. The other thing you don't understand is how our government is supposed to work. An "unelected bureaucrat", to use a brexiters' favourite expression, is not supposed to be in charge. In prison would be better.

He's a buffoon in the style of trump. He will give into the EU demands eventually. He's a reversable weakling, always U-turning. He tries to sound strong like Churchill, pathetic to see on TV. Talks a load of generalised, fake bs throwing his chubby arms around as if to convince you knuckle draggers that he actually means what he says. It's all an act. Can't wait for PM Starmer.

I wish you would have to stay in Uk from 2021 and feel the pain in your ass.

Otherwise you would not write such nonsense. ????

When did you last set foot there Seamus, given your loathing of the place & allegiance to all things EU?

Eire will need UK....

I would have thought the ability to do mental press-ups would be a more desirable attribute for the leader of a country.

The prime minister, speaking to Times Radio, also suggested an investigation should take place into the UK’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, but said now “was not the right time”.

I think many would have preferred a longer convalescence.  Nice Southern mid- Atlantic island, perhaps?

Verbal back flips and leaps of logic are more his style.
