If the visa amnesty is not extended, which countries look appealing ?

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

What is everyone's "Plan B" if the amnesty is not extended ?

For myself, my visa expires in November
right now here on amnesty til July 31st
i know what the other "possibilities" are
but at time of writing, nothing has been announced by immigration
i am British, but i have no intention of wasting money to go back to blighty
and would much prefer to visit whatever destinations are possible
my main candidate is Tanzania, simply because i like the president,
(nobody needs to remind me to avoid eating goats and paw paw LOL)
other option, maybe Georgia, as you get 1 year entry no visa, and its cheap to live there

If the powers that be remain silent (as some on TV have suggested they might)
and you have to leave Thailand with no sure fire way to get back in straight away
which countries are possible and seem appealing to visit ?

my visa has not expired (although not the same for everyone)
thing is flights and borders are opening back up this month for many countries
and there has been plenty of flights OUT of Thailand
so they might say they gave everyone that needed to leave plenty of time to leave
(those on yearly extension do not need to leave, but everyone else would have had too anyway)

there would be no "cull" as you would be able to re-enter providing you jump through the hoops and book 2 weeks in a quarantine hotel etc.
just as others are starting to do
for myself i don't like hoops, and would prefer to simply wait it out elsewhere if needs be
what does concern me, is i think Thailand will be late to the re-opening party
as other countries just flip the switch, it will be pointlessly dragged out here.

Plan "A": Resume my travels to neighboring countries (of Thailand). Vietnam and Cambodia are at the top of my list, but I'd consider others. Requires open borders without quarantine and reasonable entry requirements. Not looking good as of now.

Plan "B": Remain in Thailand until Plan "A" becomes feasible. Might or might not work, depending on when and how the amnesty will end.

Plan "C": Fly back to home country, travel around in Europe until situation in Southeast Asia changes. Looks increasingly likely. I'm mostly interested in Greece and Spain. No major restrictions as of now; flights are available.

I've booked a ticket back home just in case, but could postpone that trip if things change here.

Nearly every Country in the World has restricted foreigners from entering their Country , no one would be uproaring about it if Thailand kept their incoming restrictions

And I highly doubt other countries ask for 100k insurance for starters..

I was thinking about Spain and Greece, but like ovens there in the summer.

nobody is uproaring about Thailands policies

We are discussing what other countries are possible to visit and have appeal
right now there are 26 countries without any restrictions
another 12 opening back up very soon (dates announced, mostly this month)
flights are available to many destinations
and transiting is possible with many countries
If Thailand keep their policies, and you had to leave,
which country would you visit, while you wait to return to Thailand ?

Nobody is discussing "foreigners staying here long term without the correct visa"????‍♂️

Erh, yes I know, which is my whole point. My questions is/was will they have the minerals to actually do it while local borders are closed and with all the present requirements in place at the airports?

Right. Thee question posed was will they use this as an opportunity to force many foreigners to leave knowing full well many will struggle or find it impossible to come back?

to be really effective they would need to rid themselves of the agent action. If cases start to rise here exponentially (when borders are reopened) the microscopes of the  track/tracing could uncover some dubious paperwork..

@innosiemThey are totally deaf to your (The OP) topic question and want to steal your thread with a topic about evil plans to throw out the farang haha.

I wouldn't mind a link to where you are finding open countries though.  I might take your plan over fly back to the mess at home.

Most likely, most of these are European countries.

worldressttpopdata.png.1da33cfe97856f927ac5f49175218681.png

says 26, although map is slow to update,
no list you need to go through each continent to see info for each country

using another source
Azerbaijan
Iran
Pakistan
Turkey
Uzbekistan
Albania
Armenia
Georgia
Macedonia
Ukraine
Samoa
Palau
Vanuatu
Jamaica
Mexico
St. Vincent
St. Lucia
Gabon
Lesotho
Tanzania
Tunisia

are listed as "normal" no quarantine etc. can enter fine,
1 or 2 require filling a form, 1 or 2 require a test
but plenty more on partial
and other countries i have not fully looked at as no interest to myself
have opened borders to specific countries like Spain have just done

not really, see list and sources above,
i am not really looking at EU myself
although EU is opening up and i expect it will seem like its all back open overnight,
while Thailand drags its feet

NO, i never asked that question
i never asked if immigration would do any such thing

i asked what other countries have any appeal ?

nothing at all to do with anyone being "Forced"

No, that was MY question. No need to get all upset.

Georgia is a digital nomad space.

Maybe certain Thailand expats wouldn't like it there, if only for the pungent smell of the great unwashed.

"no sure fire way to get straight back in"
as in, no border runs, no quick out and back in (without quarantine & hoops etc.)

i actually really like Georgia, banking is easy there too.

My search the other day showed these in the ~$500 usd plane-ticket range, and fairly easy to enter in July - but please correct me if this is not the case:
Greece, Turkey, Ukraine, Cyprus

I am hoping for more options by August 5th, assuming I apply for "7 days to leave the country" extension a couple days before the auto-extension ends (likely a "there at 4AM and takes all day" thing).  That assumes no other options to stay - will see.

If the destination-country wants me to stay in a hotel a few days for test-results, that's fine.  I very well might have had it in February, when exposed to all the Chinese-New-Year tourists.  But I feel for those who are in not so good health, for whom travel will be dangerous.

Speculation on what immigration and/or the cabinet will or will-not do, is pointless.  All we can do, is try to be ready for any / all possibilities.

You stated in your OP ''and you have to leave Thailand ''

Surely that is the same thing as being forced, is it not??

Exactly, we all should be planning for all possibilities
see the links above for more info,
Many countries do not require testing or quarantine, if you can find and afford the flights to reach them
