Popular Post Sametboy2019
As most people know Boracay shut for 6 months and renovated the whole island. This could of easily been implemented during this lockdown in Thailand in places like Pattaya, Ko Samui and Phuket. Other places also i may add! Such a shame! 3

I'm sure that architects and town planners from across the globe will soon be winging their way here to admire the end-result. That's if they can get appropriate travel insurance and a "fit-to-fly" certificate, of course, lol.

samsensam
As most people know Boracay shut for 6 months and renovated the whole island. ah... but did they conform to social distancing rules while carrying out the work? lockdown sounds like such a good opportunity to carry out construction/refurbishment/repair work, unfortunately it is very difficult to do this safely and effectively while social distancing. samsensam
currently thailand doesn't want to heal tourism. you have to remember why countries went into lockdown; to protect their healthcare systems, so they wouldn't get overloaded with cases and those infected could be treated and have the best chance of survival. once this fear has been alleviated then countries start to open up and tourism has started, e.g. within europe. clearly the thai government does not feel the healthcare system is robust enough to cope and is therefore extremely worried about any extra cases of infection. until they have confidence in the healthcare system the government will not allow large numbers of people into the country, irrespective of the potential damage to the tourist industry and economy. drbeach
OP, same thing has been going on at "the beach" island down in Krabi. Closed for over a year already and only planning to re-open sometime next year. It helps to know your facts before making a post like this. jimmybcool
While it might have been an idea to employ some people and upgrade the facilities in some tourist areas that isn't what will restore their tourist industry. First of all it is too early to do so. Making an effort too soon will result in chaos and long term more damage to their industry. Wait til the world knows we are at the tail end of the virus then act. What will aid in restoring their tourism sector is a couple of things. 1) Make getting Visas really easy and free. Make it so anyone can stay 60 days on arrival. 2) Fund their national airline or find some way to make flying to Thailand cheap. 3) Devalue the baht making it once again an inexpensive vacation spot. Really that is all it would take. The natural tendency of the Thais to apply capitalist offers to tourists will take care of the rest.

Deli
From that what I understood, Boracay became a sterile and overregulated and therefore boring island. All the flair and fun has gone. Duterte is one of the world's prime funbusters.
