BANGKOK, July 6 (TNA) – Crime Suppression Division police arrested three suspects who allegedly hacked Facebook and LINE accounts of others and used them to trick people out of millions of baht.

Two women identified only as Sararat and Chutikan and a man identified only as Apichart were arrested for the alleged crime.

Police said Miss Sararat and Miss Chutikan hacked Facebook and LINE accounts of other people and use the accounts to borrow money from people in the contact lists of hacked accounts. People in the contact lists transferred them 10,000-30,000 baht at a time.

Somehow I don't think these people know one line of code.

But it could be a social engineering hack where passwords were compromised mostly likely by watching someone unlock their phone.

Password was 123456 ?

One of the (many) reasons I stopped using Facebook was the all too frequent messages from contacts saying they were stuck overseas and needed quick cash. After a couple reads, I could tell they'd been hacked, but still the heart strings were pulled for a moment and it got tiring. Surprised the scam still works.

Afaik, when you reinstall line on  NEW phone, you first need to confirm on old phone by sms code, else the contact list is empty on new phone.

It is said that TIK TOK app is going to be band in Australia, not sure about other countries, because as it turns out this app found to be a Chinese based information mining app on it's users that are mainly young people...

All these platforms, Google, Facebook etc. collect and use personal information, it is what makes them so valuable.

It's who is getting the information and what they are using it for that is the concern.

The danger with this app is it is device to collect information about people from all over the world for the communist Chinese government intelligence and police agencies. Their goal is a have a file for every person in the world. Not just Chinese citizens.

FB say they will clamp down on scammers exploiting users. But I just saw again this Libra coin scam that has been all over S/E Asia. They are targeting spesific areas, like BKK for a week or two, then Pattays, Phuket etc. Perhaps they think they can get away with it since they are not in the western world. I know a lot of people has fallen victims to this scams, usually executed by eastern european gangsters, with spoofed phone numbers and fake names and email addresses. It would be interesting to know how many there was. If there was high numbers, maybe a class action law suit would be the way to go. If you have been a victim, leave me a message here, then we can take it from there and speak to a lawyer. I has to start somewhere, right?
