Trump niece describes 'malignantly dysfunctional family' in new book

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - In a new book, a niece of President Donald Trump applies her training in psychology to conclude that the president likely suffers from narcissism and other clinical disorders - and was boosted to success by a father who fuelled those traits.

In "Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man," Mary Trump writes of a "malignantly dysfunctional family" dominated by a patriarch, Fred Trump, who showed little interest in his five children other than grooming an heir for his real-estate business.

Ultimately, he settled on Donald, she wrote, deciding that his second son's "arrogance and bullying" would come in handy at the office, and encouraged it.

"He short-circuited Donald's ability to develop and experience the entire spectrum of human emotion," Trump writes. "Donald requires division. It is the only way he knows how to survive - my grandfather ensured that decades ago when he turned his children against each other."

The book, due out next Tuesday, is the first Trump biography written by a family member. Reuters obtained a copy of the book. The president's brother Robert has tried unsuccessfully, so far, to block its publication. The court battle continues but is not expected to halt publication.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said on Tuesday that it was a "book of falsehoods." Its publication comes as Trump, a Republican, seeks a second term in the Nov. 3 presidential election.

Mary Trump has a troubled history with her uncle, who clashed with her father, Fred Jr., before he died at age 42 after a battle with alcoholism.

Mary and her brother also engaged in a protracted legal battle over Fred Sr.'s estate after his death in 1999. She writes she secretly helped New York Times reporters on a 2018 investigation that outlined how Trump and his siblings avoided millions of dollars in taxes.

Speculation about Trump's mental state is common among his political detractors. Mary Trump brings a different perspective, however, because she has a PhD in psychology and decades of first-hand experience with Trump and his broader family.

"I have no problem calling Donald a narcissist ... but the label gets us only so far," she writes, adding that the president might also suffer from other pathologies that prevent him from accepting responsibility for his actions and empathising with others. She writes that he also may suffer from learning and sleep disorders.

"He knows deep down that he is nothing of what he claims to be," she writes. "He knows he has never been loved."

Creepy Florida man says his niece is "stacked".

‘You’re stacked’: Trump complimented his niece’s breasts in front of wife, book says

Mary Trump, the daughter of the president’s late older brother, writes in her forthcoming memoir that he made the lewd remarks at Mar-a-Lago in 1994 while she was there to meet with him about potentially helping him to write a book.

“Holy s--t, Mary. You’re stacked,” Trump said as she arrived to the lunch meet wearing a bathing suit and a pair of shorts, according to the book.

Maples, Trump’s second wife, reacted with “mock horror,” she writes.

He is an utterly ghastly amoral individual who has managed to extend the "malignant dysfunctionality" documented in this book into the administration over which he presides. The damage done to the social fabric of the United States over the last years is both saddening and disturbing. He has, principally by encouraging racial divides ( amongst all racial groups) created this "malignant dysfunctionality", and appears to be relying on it to ensure his re-election.

Awful chap, sort of fellow who probably sleeps in his vest!

Anyone besides his loyal fans (including those on Thaivisa) could see the guy was not "normal" lying all the time and never admitting he lied. I guess that is the price they are willing to pay to have someone of their side in government even if he is a lying psycho. Shows a lot about the morals of Trump supporters.

But at least its possible to criticize the US President and call out your personal views on him. A little different in Thailand with the draconian computer crime act.

Yes Trump sold himself well.  Clean the swamp, America First, all those tag lines, and his base loved him for it.  Never questioning if he could deliver.  Goes to show that the idealistic notion that anyone can be President is flawed, too much power given, and the Republicans in the Congress are all sheep following an idiot president for no reason other than complacency and greed.  The ridiculous rules that any elected congressman or woman cannot be "fired" for not performing their jobs of doing what is best for their constituency does not make for a true democracy.  2021 may get better or it may not, but the decision is definitely not in the hands of anyone but the POTUS and the 535 members of Congress.

Totally agree.

Good thing Mary Trump's book is not any of the things you abhor, which I'm sure you'd agree with AFTER you have read it.

She has what, 50-ish years of experience within the family - she knows where the bodies, and robes are buried, and has a PhD in Clinical Pyschology, so think she's more than qualified to write a book about her uncle, the president of the United States, and his myriad (daddy) "issues".

And I'm sure the president will be along shortly to highlight her "sins" and "faults".

I love this! ???? The problem, though, is that you do not need a pHd in psychology to determine that. This guy have always been very serious about opening up to the public and show all his problems, so that even the general population quickly can understand he is an !di0t.

Geez, where the heck have people been for the past 40 or so years Trump has been around. Perhaps because I am from the NY area I was more exposed to him, but this is nothing new. He has always been this way. He cultivated an image of a playboy always in the presence of attractive women. He always was bragging about every project he was involved with - but puffery is standard in the real estate business. My only Psych class was in High School and I could diagnose him as narcissistic. I have plenty of Trump stories from my working days and this is nothing new.

This is all old news from someone who was unhappy with the way he treated her, but kind of interesting her brother has no complaints at all.

As for her claim that someone took the SAT for Trump, that's already been debunked by that person's wife (he died in 1999). She insists they first met while attending UPenn, long after he would have taken the SAT. Pretty despicable to ruin the reputation of a dead man.

This book is just more trash from people looking to cash in, just nonsense.

Yes we know, that’s why his administration are trying to hide the information on who received the Covid-19 stimulus money.

Transparent government was, as you might recall, one of his campaign promises.

{White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said on Tuesday that it was a "book of falsehoods."}

One of the first questions reporters asked McEnany after she called it a 'book of falsehoods' was:

"Have you read the book?"

"No", was her response.

Oh, the irony!

Communists?

Interesting to look at the analytics from the 2016 Election.  45 won 85% of all US Counties, but combined they account for only 38% of US GDP. HRC won 15% of US Counties, but they represent 62% of US GDP. Quick math says HRC areas are 9.25 times more productive than 45's zones.  Sounds like HRC's supporters are Capitalists.

45 won heavily in Red States like KY, TN and WV, which are at or neat the top of per capita inhabitants living on Social Security Disability Insurance.  SOunds like these States might be the commies.

As for Patriots, few if any will ever support a guy who paid a doctor to write him a Fake Excuse to avoid service, or a guy who dissed a POW who had the choice of leaving captivity at any time but chose to stay 'until all of us walk out together', or a guy who disses Gold Star Families, or a guy who has no problem with a hostile foreign power offering bounties on the scalps of US Servicepeople.

On the other hand, 45 does do well with the Never Served, non-college educated white male demographic.

Perhaps you are unaware, but the House has 435 total members. You note 3 of them. The House is a true democracy, unlike the Senate, which is an anachronism.  3 out of 435? Doesn't sound like a majority.

It's a good bet President Biden can 'survive' them. The beauty of the US system, however, is that those three have a voice, and every 2 years their constituents can decide if they wish to keep them in the House.

I don't share your thinking as I think they represent a disease and with biden their influence will only grow. Much akin to blm who left unchecked will cause tremendous damage to our way of life.

Growing up in south Florida, Trump is just a typical New Yorker/New Jerseyite/Philadelphian. They're all loud, obnoxious, and talk nothing but sh!t. We used to joke that when they flushed the toilets in those places, it ended up in Florida. The problem in Florida is that there are too many people from the aforementioned places, so they voted for one of their own. ????

Can't disagree with anything you wrote, but many countries are applauding this embarrassment of a President, simply because he makes the United States look foolish. One thing that I have realized since moving to Thailand, is that the USA is hated worldwide and not always without cause.
