The thing is the restoration was succesful but now the problem is i cant launch the firefox browser.... wat did i do wrong pls advice ....many tks in advance..cheers

You can take Windows Explorer and look at c:\program files\mozilla firefox\default and see if a new profile folder has been created (other than default) where the bookmarks could be, or do a search for a file named "bookmarks".

Now that you've re-installed and overwritten your previous Firefox installation though, I don't think the chances of getting them back are very good though.

i posted earlier this week about losing all my bookmarks in firefox

thankfully I exported, backed up, all my bookmarks in december to a html file & have used that for a couple weeks.

now, this weeks firefox problem, i cannot make lasting changes to my tool bar ..

i make changes but upon reload it's back to default setting / icons / tools

i went back to a previous version of firefox to no avail .. I'm back to 2.00.3 but cannot customize my toolbar .. ff will keep my changes for the session only

& keep my bkmark.htm file on my desktop

i still refuse to use IE .. but reconsidering .. maybe opera.

i love the ff flexibility .. even with instability.

This is from a file called localstore.rdf corrupting when FF is shut down improperly. Locate that file and make a copy of it once you have your settings how you want them, then just paste the backup into your profile folder if you ever lose the settings again.

Alternately, there's this method from Mozillazine:

This article deals with Firefox issues caused by a corrupt localstore.rdf file, which may include:

* Changes to the toolbar reset themselves after you close Firefox and start it up again

* Window size or position not remembered at startup

* Bookmarks appear in the Bookmarks Manager but not in the main menu and can't be edited [1]* "Add Bookmark" dialog not working [2]

* Firefox 1.5: Search engines missing from the Search Bar and unable to add new engines (Firefox 2 users, see this article)

These problems can be fixed by using either of the following methods (any toolbar customizations will be gone when you restart Firefox):

Safe Mode method: Exit Firefox completely and then restart Firefox in Safe Mode. A window called Firefox Safe Mode with some troubleshooting options will appear. Select the option "Reset toolbars and controls" and choose "Make Changes and Restart".

Alternate method: Exit Firefox completely, open the Firefox profile folder (Windows users, read this for help finding it) and delete the file "localstore.rdf". Caution: Do not delete the localstore.rdf file in the Firefox program installation folder by mistake

I also suggest running the Mozbackup utility once in a while.

good advice by cdnvic as always.

I've been following his advice on things like this since I switched some time ago. Never had any uinresolvable issues since.

Using FF with plug ins extensions et al...

kayo! :o
