Is that what trump is demanding?

That states make their own decisions on school opening based upon the rate of infection in their state?

Because I’m ok with that, letting states make their own decisions on opening schools based upon the situation in their state.

Or is he demanding all open regardless?

I watched his Secretary of Education DeVos whom was interviewed and asked this question. She refused a yes or no answer.

There seems to be a huge disagreement between experts and politicians exactly what "opening safely" actually means.

Trump has consistently rejected the advice of the professionals that he himself hired.

Until the government and the health experts are singing the same tune, i wouldn't blame anyone for keeping their child at home.

No he hasn't ,he has mentioned safety while using guidelines! Experts  believe depending on the area and its status and using guidelines while practicing social distancing it could be done.

That is what I would like to know. What would a safe school look like. The class room, the lunch room, the play ground. They won't be 6 ft apart, thats for sure. These  people who say it is better for the children to be back in school, are they talking about a normal school day or the one the kids are going to get.

The school a taught at (taking this year off) has done an A/B situation. A's go to school Mon/Wed/Fri, B's Tue/Thu/Sat. This allows for distancing in the classrooms, lunch areas, everywhere. It's tough! With some juggling of schedules, the teachers aren't doing a total doubling of class sessions, but it's much more than usual. So far, it's working. VERY difficult, but it's working.

opening safely  is a risk ! But it is a risk according to some experts that can be managed !  It has been done with other countries. People who advise the President believe this can happen  with safety measures !

If parents want to keep their children home I don't see a problem with it. Like I said areas, status and guidelines

Actually, most experts (including Dr. Fauci) agree that for many places in the US, schools should not re-open.

Anyway, what the experts and Trump says is irrelevant. It's all up to the parents and the majority (as per title) think it's too early and will not risk their family's health.

And he also agree's that if they follow the steps which I have been alluding to since page 3 it can be done !

“It really will depend on the dynamics of the outbreak and where the particular school is,” said Fauci. “Take a look at the particular area of the so-called Opening America Again. Are you at the gateway, Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3?”

Areas that have hot spots can be managed along with set backs

If cherry picking scientific data shows how to open schools in areas's together with experts that don't  have  a political agenda ,would that be ok

Apart from the cherry picking....yes.  Unbiased, apolitical experts or functional specialists giving advice based ALL relevant data applicable to a specific case is required.

Wot? Like Florida, or Arizona?

Reuters had a good fact-filled report today on the latest evidence of the U.S. circling the coronavirus toilet under Trump.

U.S. shatters coronavirus record with over 77,000 cases in a day

(Reuters) - The United States shattered its daily record for coronavirus infections on Thursday, reporting more than 77,000 new cases as the number of deaths in a 24-hour period rose [to] by nearly 1,000, according to a Reuters tally.

The loss of 969 lives was the biggest increase since June 10, with Florida, South Carolina and Texas all reporting their biggest one-day spikes on Thursday.

...

The hardest-hit areas in Texas and Arizona are running out of places to store bodies as their morgues fill up and are bringing in coolers and refrigerated trailers.

Interesting demographic info re California's CV cases and deaths from the CA Dept of Health Services via the LA Times.

2020-07-17-108.jpg.f1f9437972b17b1954a6c39377124eeb.jpg

Looks like the 17 and under age group is accounting for about 9% of total confirmed CV cases, but a very negligible number of deaths. On the other hand, the 80 and up age group looks like they're less than 5% of total cases, but about 45% of all deaths.  That's just the snapshot data for California.

So the above numbers certainly show that youngsters are contracting the CV. But the equally interesting detail to me in the above stats is the fact that the 18-34 age group in CA represents the largest age cohort of confirmed cases by a wide margin.... maybe 32 or 33% based on the graphic.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online, in English, throughout the United States. It gathered responses from 1,114 American adults and has a credibility interval, a measure of precision, of three percentage points.

1,114 divided by 50 states that would be 22 people called in each state? I find that the sample size here is statistically nonsense. Of the 22 people how many misheard the question? How many did not understand the question, how many were underage kids lying on the phone etc etc. Just my opinion, sure everyone has one.

Because you don’t know much about empirical research, I presume.

...and you have never worked with a professional research firm like Ipsos, apparently.
