TAT launches new campaign to woo tourists to world class Thailand

The Tourism Authority of Thailand has proudly announced how they are going to save the country from tourism ruin.

It's called the Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration.

The idea of the campaign behind the group is to sharpen up Thailand's safety record a notch or two until it is tip top.

Work will also take place to ensure that Thailand's renowned medical facilities are in perfect order.

Initiatives like these should have foreigners returning to Thai shores by the fourth quarter - high season in the kingdom.

TAT governor Yuthasak Suphasorn cautioned that the number may not be staggering come year's end.

He forecast that there would not be the standard 3 to four million tourists a month - more like in the hundreds of thousands.

Yuthasak said that so many things in Thailand are world class and right up there is safety and health.

The governor also wants to see Thais targeted for domestic tourism and his organization has some interesting plans to do so.

A major group they are targeting are Thais who would normally go abroad. This is thought to be a 12-13 million strong market to target for domestic tourism.

On top of the many cheap deals being promoted in Thailand, those who would have gone abroad are asked to provide evidence for a further 10-15% discount.

All they would need to do to qualify for more freebies is show a flight or hotel booking that they had to cancel due to the pandemic.

The TAT want to get their hands on some of the 400 billion baht this group would traditionally spend abroad.

Around two thirds of this group said they would holiday in Thailand, said a survey in a Manager story.

What can one say? Hoping against hope. World class? Lower luxury taxes if you want to attract the rich tourists you keep on talking about. They love to shop, and will not pay stupid prices.

  • They forgot to include the fact that in a recent poll 95% of Thai people don't want foreign tourists. I guess that muddies the message.

Make some sacrifices. Show us you guys are serious, about something other than constant pontification.

Saying it is so, does not make it so. Harboring issusions does not change reality one iota.

It's not like if they had much choice...

And why give discounts to wealthy people who were ready to pay a heavy price to travel to Europe, America or Japan?

They already save a lot by staying in Thailand...

Catchy name... and who's going to save Thailand from the tourism authorities of Thailand? the real money is, if they didn't get it so far, is with the numbers of tourists, not the class...

Talking Safety & Health In Thailand again.

They should play to their strengths, not try to reinvent themselves as something they certainly are not.

Problem is, they don't like the image that their success has generated, hence the fun police are out and about.

And if something isn't fun, well then it is going to be a hard sell.

Seeing as this is from The Manager, I bet it's safe to assume it's one of Rooster's translation subtleties.

The well off Chinese love to gamble. They have a couple of years before tourists really return. Time to build world class casinos in the four major centers; Bangkok,  Phuket,  Chaing Mai, and Pattaya.

Surveys of Thai people want to save Thais from tourism not bring tourists to Thailand. Thais believe that farangs will bring covid19 to Thailand and not money.

Even the rats on Sukhumvit wear braces on their teeth!

Does safety apply to driving on Thai roads?

This year so far in #Thailand, 58 people have died from #COVID19. Do you know how many people died from road accidents yesterday? 58 people in one day alone. The exact same number. Don’t you think the Thai government should be doing more to reduce deaths caused by road accidents?

Do what!!! That will take years and the need is now.

You can't make this stuff up. :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:

I see they are wasting money by running a feel-good type advertisement on CNN.
