CCSA prepares for second-wave of Covid-19 infections

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) is making preparations in case there is a second wave of infections, CCSA spokesman Dr Taweesin Visanuyoth said on Tuesday (July 21).

He said the cases of the infected Egyptian soldier in Rayong, and a Sudanese diplomat’s daughter in Bangkok should serve as lessons for the government, and it should come up with plan to curb infections as businesses start reopening.

He said the 6,780 people in Rayong believed to have been at risk tested negative to the virus, while in Bangkok, the 364 people near the Sudanese girl were also free of the virus.

Despite the result, he said CCSA will prepare guidelines based on the Rayong case to avoid chaos and overreaction, which has caused local businesses to come to a standstill.

He cited Japan’s virus-controlling system, which is divided into two phases: closing the outbreak area and sensitive sites such as schools; and imposing national emergency which makes social-distancing mandatory.

“What we have to learn is the economy must move forward. In cases like Rayong, the entire city can be closed instead of just shopping malls and hotels, because there is a strong possibility of transmission,” Dr Taweesin said.

Meanwhile, the Public Health Ministry is looking into an advance plan to cope with a second-wave of infections in a move to build public confidence.

So he left out the 11 Chinese passengers who (presumably to some) boarded 7JULY2020 two flights at Don Muang and later tested positive for COVID-19 upon their arrival in China.

Maybe this guy follows T.V. I said this last week instead of building roads and spending billions promote tourist better spend the money to get ready for the next wave with or without the vaccine in place.

No one can stop the second wave but if you prepare you can contain it. I understand why the locals and even expat living or stuck here want things to stay in place because the majority of the country has already been qaurantine already from the lock down the chances of getting it is low but once they start to let in those dirty foreigners?  The numbers right now returning are manageable but Thai economy can't live in a bubble sooner or later you got to open back up no man or country is an island when they realize it and it is open then the second wave is will come just as the sun will rise. The question do you want it to be a big wave or just a ripple? ????

If there was going to be a second wave, we presumably would be seeing signs of it now that the schools have reopened.

My teenage daughter and her classmates get only a cursory daily temperature check. She hasn't heard of know of any students being treated for the virus. I've even stopped avoiding her like the plague!

One suspects this "novel" coronavirus has been in Thailand since the back-end of last year, disguised as flu. If so, many of us must have become infected with mild or no symptoms, and acquired immunity - at least for a while.

Yes, I know. . . famous last words!

Unfortunately, the Thai military who has indirectly controlled the nation through surrogates lives in a bubble of fantasy.

Its current priority is to buy a new medium-sized aircraft for general use worth 1.34 billion baht. Perhaps not to be outdone, the Air Force may be planning to buy a fleet of fighter jets like the US F-35.

Pandemics are for 'civies.'

It just re-enforces my belief, what about those old second, third hand subs?  Pandemic yes for Civies doing the right thing for the people for once would be nice but the red envelope they are so use to just isn't there skim off the top for an Aircraft you need a suitcase to carry it all away.  The upraising is coming with the Internet the young are starting to smell the coffee?

Your comment whether you know it or not just re-enforced my comments.  The second wave isn't coming until as I said they open it up even slowly the numbers will rise!  Up to now they have lock down everyone in Thailand that itself is a quarantine do the math how many months. This is the reason they can brag about close to 2 months without a reported virus except for those being repatriated and when tested they are quarantine based on those number it is manageable but since there is no large testing regardless of how much they brag we can only guess?

I live with 99.9% of Thais in Pattaya on the Darkside and I know of no one that has it and if you live out here it is as if there is no virus even during the lockdown people go about their business except they do wear a mask.  Local school government are open but they don't have enough teacher?  they go 2 days then take the rest of the week off.

I would love to get tested just to see if I had it but told " you farang 10,000 baht "  I just smile cough a few times and walk away!

translation "we are going to ignore the fact, that just like in the rest of thailand for almost 8 weeks, there was no virus transmission by these two people, despite our best efforts to find a case to justify our continuing to act like we are dealing with the plague"

"there will be a second wave, because we have said there will be...those infected just wont know it...."

its like groundhog day here to the firsts days of the virus... "omg.. a new virus.. what might happen... better prepare for the worst"

rather than 'based on what has happened already, we dont expect much problems with any new cases"

Bring money into Thailand by encouraging long stay visitors from anywhere with free 90-day visas, renewable one time be they workers, tourists or retirees. These people can cope with the 14-day quarantine and be released into the population without risk. The 2-week tourists will have to wait out the virus threat.

True.

We are looking at plans to cope with the second wave.

If that's not scaremongering, what is. Shouldn't that be IF there's is a second wave.

Oh and the headline of course. Prepares for second wave
