I am somewhat confused by the so called International commercial flight ban as I landed at BKK airport on Tuesday at 11 am and there was a KLM, Air France and Qatar jet on the move and clearly working unlike the graveyard of Thai airplanes parked permanently on the runway.  2 weeks ago I was in Chiang Rai airport and there was a flight going to China and full of Chinese tourists.  Lines and lines of them dressed up like spacemen in white suits with masks. and they were definitely tourist, not returning expats.  So if no International flights are arriving what is really going on?  How did the plane in Chiang Rai with the tourists arrive?  Again we are not getting the full story.  BKK airport was like a ghost town!

Repatriation flights arrive and depart daily.

Interesting observation and comment. Chiang Rai International Airport would be THE hub for Chinese migrant workers (and their baggage) being repatriated to China from all the big Chinese hotel/casino complexes across the border in neighboring Burma (Myanmar) and Laos. Personally, I do not think they would have been tourists as no tourist visas are being issued.

This complete madness has gone far enough now, but nothing will change for months. I'm trying to decide, Portgual or Spain, have to wear masks outside in Spain but not in Portgual. Where the slutty girls are basically, which I know is Thailand, but I'm stuck in Europe????

So, your whole life future is based upon where you have to wear a mask?

Wow, good luck hope you make the right decision.

Please note (quote from The Nation):-

Both groups of foreign workers must obtain a certificate that facilitates entry into the Kingdom and a medical certificate (Fit to Travel).

In the case of a foreign worker with a re-entry visa and a work permit, after Immigration provides them an entry permit and visa, the foreign workers must undergo Covid-19 examination at the Disease Control checkpoint immediately and must be quarantined for 14 days at Alternate Local Quarantine (ALQ).

do you believe any of that will really happen?

You really can go nowhere for now.

I have Kanchanaburi and Koh Chang trips planned.

Best to just do what you can here for now.

Yeah, stuck. I'm getting serious cabin fever, usually I exited Thailand every 1-2 months to retain some sort of sanity, dealing with Thais for extended periods is bad for the mental health. As soon as the quarantines stop...

I tend to agree. It is what it is. Had an utterly delightful time in Bangkok a week ago. Amazing. Hardly anyone there. A few places were busy. The malls were busy with locals. But alot of people in need. Alot of great hotel bargains! And seemed like less traffic than usual.

I was there yesterday, right in the middle. Traffic was definitely less than usual, seemed pretty quiet - but as you said, surprisingly pleasant. If it was like that all the time the place might almost be livable.

I've been watching several walking videos from a number of cities and it's the same everywhere. They all look much more pleasant with far less traffic and few people on the streets.

Yay ....... another VISA amnesty extension coming!

I've been saying likely until the end of the year all along.

Is it more important that you are right or that unemployed Thais might be able to return to work?

Has nothing to do with the flight ban for tourists, though I understand yr point.

Workers get in and stay in a certain area, tourists come and go and move allover the place

This is what scares the poo outta the Uniforms, as they must give up their fetish, which is control.

For me: open borders tmw with control as in Europe

 All good.

Not all hotels are closed.  I am headed back to Cape Panwa to stay at the Pullman resort in a Seaview room with all amenities included, 3 meals a day, drinks, transfers to and from the hotel back to the airport.  With the Airfare I paid on Bangkok Airways and the 8 day package it ran about 37,000 baht for both the GF and myself.  Just returned 2 weeks ago from Staying at the Cape Panwa resort same type of deal.

I will book a few more trips from Bangkok to Phuket in November and December.

Can I ask where you are finding that deal?  It sounded nice so I thought I would book the same (Pullman) but the best deal I can find (Agoda, Booking and Pullmans own website) is 50,000 for 8 nights with only half board (lunch or dinner) and no drinks.  Doesn’t include airfare or transfers either.

Total closure isn't sustainable. The Thai "powers" that be, are well aware of this. To think they'll continue the charade long term, is just delusional. Let's enjoy the quiet beaches and resort deals while available, as it won't last long mates.

well maybe it will be permanently like that once a few million have starved following the total crash of the economy, and resulting depression.

You seem to like to provoke people for free (anonymously, that goes without saying), but if you behave like this openly in Thailand, you would be provoking blunders pretty

I don't understand what drives you except a personal problem.
Not having empthy for others is one of the characteristics of psychopaths, so we can only understand the discomfort of a particular situation.
