Kasikornbank president Preedee Daochai on Friday (July 24) tendered his resignation, the bank reported to the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET).

Preedee was a co-president of Kasikornbank, as well as the chairman of the Thai Bankers' Association. He started working at the bank in 1982 and became president in 2013.

A news source from the SET speculated that Preedee had resigned to take up the post of finance minister in the upcoming Cabinet reshuffle, after current minister Uttama Savanayana was ousted as leader of the ruling Palang Pracharat Party in June following which he quit the party and the Cabinet.

Good luck to this gentleman.  He would take the reigns at a rough patch for Thailand—exports crumbling, tourism drowning, and Baht rising (vs. the world’s reserve currency).

I've been using KasikornBank since the Old Thai Farmer Bank days - anyone remember that? If this guy had anything to do with the reliabilty and reputation of KBank then maybe he will be a force for good in the Thai Finance Ministry. Good luck to him in what maybe a difficult and somewhat political situation.
