Thai Wife In BKK Quarantine From USA - Suggestions!

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Hello,

My Thai National Wife is on her 7th day of Quarantine at the Cinnamon Hotel in BKK, after 40 hours getting from Maui, Hawaii to LAX to Seoul to BKK on Repatriation flight.

I wish someone had told her the following:

1.  Can you "REALLY" handle being in one room 24/14?  Phapassorn kept assuring me she would be fine.  Well, she's not.  She's going a bit "crazy".  I should have made her take a puzzle or two, self-playing games, phone numbers of every person she's ever met and knows in the world, etc.

2.  Exercise Bands.  She needs to get on the floor and stretch and exercise some.  I know.  I know.  Thai women, generally, don't like to exercise.  But it's a MUST!

3.  SNACKS.  Take coffee (the stuff in the room is too sweet), snacks, cookies and items she likes to eat.  Forget about clothes.  My wife is screaming for some snacks.

4.  SPICES.  She gets 3 meals a day, and now the food tastes the same.  I wish she had some spices for the food.

5.  PHONE #'s.  Phone numbers of friends who can bring her food.  I think it was after 3 days someone she knows can bring her food.  My wife is from ISSAN area and doesn't know a lot of BKK women.

6.  PHONE SPEAKERS. My wife will be deaf after 14 days of trying to listen/watch movies from her cellphone.

7.  DETERGENT.  Phapassorn wants to wash some of her clothes, and there's just a small thing of shampoo for her to use on her hair.

8.  TOILETRIES.  Shampoos.  Conditioner.  Hand Cream,  Everything!   The hotel had a few things for her when she went into the room, but not enough and not what she likes.

9.  SLEEPING PILLS.  She's slowly developing an "anxiety" and needs to be able to calm down and get some good sleep.

10.  FOOD.   Like most, if not all Thai women, is about F-O-O-D.  The meals are small and not enough for her.  She's hungry.  Today, the nurses allowed a delivery of a few items from Villa Market.  But she needs more food.  She should have packed a lot of stuff she likes to eat.

I wish we had thought of these things, or someone had told us.  We had zero information.

Overall, the experience has been first-class.  She is very happy with the focus on keeping her healthy.  She's test often and around the clock.  She did get out for a 5 minute walk, but a nurse was with her to see if she coughed.

Just hope this might help someone else.

Best Wishes & Blessings,

Steve

Thank you Steveln

I've noticed that several ASQ hotels offer a 7/11 service. Guest finds the item on an on-line 7 catalogue, tell lobby staff who buy it and leave it at the guest room.

I noticed one hotel process, guest leaves payment on a table outside the quest room door, but only notes accepted. Nominated staff member comes with a disinfectant spray and they drown the notes, let it dry, same again, let it dry then notes taken away by staff member with gloves...

My Vietnamese friend had to fly with goggles and a full body suit to return. They are now held in army barracks....no television and no air con.

What's the problem? Seems the 2 of you communicate, so send her the contact numbers of all your friends (if she has her phone with her she probably has her friends' numbers already).

As mentioned already - everything can be ordered online and it will be delivered to her room. She can even buy exercise bicycle. Surely you didn't think she's going to be allowed to roam the streets or use all public areas of the hotel with other people. Or did you?

My wife just came out of the quarantine yesterday. Every person handles differently for being in the same room for 14 days. She can order dry food from outside including spices but not fresh food. This is the purpose of the quarantine right? Since she knew that she would be in the room for 14  days she should prepare her self mentally and she or you should thought about some time wasting things to bring with her. So you can blame yourself but no one. She can order toiletries, shampoo etc from outside tru hotel staff or by calling the nearest store, no need to know any friends in BKK, she can order anything extra at the hotel by paying for it. I know all these because my wife just came out of it yesterday.

My wife is in the same situation in Cholchan hotel Pattaya, conditions are not good they are locked in room 24/7 except for daily swab tests, the meals are very basic and unappetising, we are lucky that I also live in Pattaya so can take her some snacks and fruit although the choice is restricted to apple, orange and banana, nothing else! Agree more information should have been provided to make the quarantine more manageable.

There was a forum this morning." Back in Thailand". Very interesting - from Snip the Cat.  He didn't seem to have any problems about getting everything he wanted.  Read it!!

Everything depends on which hotel you pick and how much money you want to pay. At several hotels you can order what you need from 7/11 or from the hotel. It gets delivered to your door. After about 8-10 days you can use the hotels facilities if your second test was negative. Everyone can check out what the hotels offers for the money you pay. Pick the crappiest one and it might be a bad experience.

Tell your wife about FoodPanda, GrabFood, 1112delivery.com. For the rest she can ask hotel staff to run down and buy stuff for her. Tops.co.th will also deliver stuff from supermarket within 2 hours, so she can get spices, fruits, snacks, etc.

<deleted>. What a whinging , whining, complaining cow she sounds like. Glad your married to her. I wouldn't be. She should grateful she got back and learn to stop whinging and whining for two weeks of her life. Must come from living in America.

come on  people   common sense is all that is required .. you are trying to get back into thailand .. you have to jump through the hoops ...

all of this complaining can be dealt with

In addition to all the good suggestions that others have given you maybe you ought to suggest to her that she grow up and quit acting like a child.

was there an urgency for her to return?
like why not just sit tight in Maui ?
surely she weighed up the quarantine before deciding to return ????‍♂️
surely they let you pack your own suitcase for these repat flights

Thanks OP for sharing it’ll help others to prepared.,.

It´s only 14 days we are talking about. Hotels have wifi. Games and puzzles online with a phone or laptop.

Everything else can be ordered. The only thing you should have been thinking about before going, is if the person going really have the mental capacity and the self control to manage a quarantine.

Well not sure about that, plenty around here do, apart from general exercise, there are many YouTube vids in thai, my missus has been doing one on yoga, depends how lazy she is really, as for food or anything it can all be delivered. Take her a laptop so much to watch, get Netflix, spend a little if you want to make her happy, for a few days more.

Just tell the wife to pretend it's a luxury prison for Hi-Sos.

Well, it should be for the prices they charge. ????

Aloha,

* Both her parents in Nong Khai are in ICU and very sick.  She needs to get to NK quickly.

* As one poster appropriately stated:  All Hotels Are Different.

* I rarely post.  I was just trying to offer some suggestions.

*  Geez. If I met several of you I'd pop you in the mouth.  I just don't understand "hatred" & "Ugliness".  Sorry you can't go to a Trump  rally.

* She's been able to order a few things, but they limit what and how she can buy things.  She is NOT in an upgraded hotel.

* She's the toughest ISAAN women in the world.

* She was disappointed when they took her to this particular hotel.  She heard it was not the best.

Thanks to those that offer ideas and suggestions during these troubling time.

To the others -- just move along to your next ugly-filled thoughts.

Best to all,

steve

"You're The ONLY One Here That Gets It."

Yes, she's not in an ASQ hotel.  All hotels are different.

She is able to order a few things, but they said "No" to many things she has wanted.

She tends to "Push The System" a lot and asks a lot of questions.

Until you've been in Quarantine (which no one here has), I think it's best to be less Judgemental.

Thanks so much to the "One Third" of you posting replies.

Steve, were you on here a while back asking how you could get your wife back to see dying parents? If so, looks like she'll get to see them after all.

this is insane, its a hotel why cant the staff buy what you want for you, call the pizza delivery?the whole things absurd in my opinion.people should be tested on arrival quarantine at home, the panic mania and control is like orwell on acid.when will this end?with this govt its highly unlikely to ever end, this is ongoing since march,i know many people who died in car crashes etc accidents and of illness but none of covid.in vietnam last week we saw 80 000 people deported in a country where theres but not one death.theres no testing or trak and trace.they are treating people as though they have the virus and something extremely deadly like ebola.last week covid deaths reached the same no as flu season deaths last yr this is worldwide 640k.this is becoming insane, rayong .it was like a mass panic hysteria, this is a virus thats killed 50 people in 9 mnths the cninese were everywhere the govt allowed them in until china stopped them so theres a resevoir of infection.where is it?pneumonia deaths are very high when in yrs past extremely low,ask the govt- you know these guys who are so smart, they suggest you boil water to make it taste less salty or ask the minister what the time is,or the justice ministry if they like tonic drinks like redbull.get a grip look at whats going on around you and quit the bah bah approach.turn the brains back on
