Hopefully we will soon see a £25 r/t to.....Manchester (if Mr T buys the club... :D )but in the meantime a weekend away down to Bondi Beach could make a nice change from Patti....fair din-cum..........so good news ...so...from today ...

Air Asia flight plan

Air Asia, the low-cost airline based in Kuala Lumpa, will launch its international service today.

The carrier will also announce an order for 15 Airbus A330s, worth more than $2 billion (£998 million) at list prices. Air Asia X, as the international service will be called, plans flights to China, India and Australia.

It is looking at services to Britain and is in talks with airports over landing rights. Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham and Stansted are all believed to be in talks with Air Asia's founder, Tony Fernandez, a former music industry executive.

Kuala Lumpa? Where is that? Was this published in The Times?... :o

From now on, AirAsia X is known as AirAsia Longhaul.

The airline will be operating the Airbus A330-300, which lack the range to fly KL-Manchester non-stop so there will be a stop somewehere en-route. This should be no major deal, as many people flying on cheaper tickets travel with one stop and a plane change anyway.

It is not clear yet what the layout of the A330 will be. Mainline carriers have a 2-4-2 layout in economy class but some charter airlines have a 3-3-3 layout in their widebody Airbus aircraft. AirAsia might adopt the 3-3-3 layout as well.

Air Asia X to launch £100 flights to KL

(from the Telegraph...earlier....thanks)

Low-cost long-haul flights to Asia are to be launched by a new airline, AirAsia X.

Fares from Britain are expected to be priced at around £100 each way to the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur when the first flights start in July.

The new airline will be competing with Oasis Hong Kong Airlines which started flying from Gatwick to Hong Kong in October with one-way prices starting at £75. :D

AirAsia X plans to fly from either Stansted or Manchester to Kuala Lumpur as part of plans to develop a network of budget flights serving China, India, Australia and the Middle East.

The airline is owned by Fly Asian Express and will collaborate with AirAsia, the region's biggest low-cost carrier.

Malaysian aviation entrepreneur Tony Fernandes, who owns part of both airlines, said average ticket prices on long-haul routes would be about half the price of full service airlines. :o
