Video shows how coronavirus has left parts of Koh Samui deserted

 

 

Footage shows how the Chaweng Beach area of Koh Samui, typically a thriving tourist destination, has been left deserted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

While other parts of Koh Samui have sprung back to life following the easing of restrictions put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, business in Chaweng, so dependent on international tourists, has been left decimated.

 

A clip shared to Facebook earlier this week, showed the extent which the pandemic is having on the tourist sector on the island, particularly in Chaweng. 

 

The normally busy streets and sidewalks are empty, with businesses such as restaurants remaining closed and bars shuttered.

 

As domestic tourism has picked up post lockdown, international tourism in Thailand remains non-existent due to the ban on tourists from overseas, which remains in place, with no news yet on when it will be lifted. 

 

It is a similar story in Phuket, with parts of the island such as Bang Tao and Nai Harn gradually returning to normal, yet Patong is eerily quiet, with the vast majority of businesses closed.

Not going to get any better until tourists are let back in, but it won't be the same numbers as last year, more like from 20 to 25 years ago. Mass tourism to long haul destinations is finished for years, even short haul is struggling with the restrictions at European resorts.

Just looks like a slum to me, East end of London is far better.

OK what time of day was this video made? looks like around 6 am, Burger King etc. are all closed by the looks of it. This area is quite anyway at that time of day. Would really help if people were a little more forthcoming on their information.

Foreign Tourist simply can't come here in larger numbers without Thailand getting back into Covid-19 spreading in this country too.

Local or even country Lockdown would result from it.

Thailand is doing a fantastic job in handling the Pendemi.

To find a solution to keep Covid-19 out of the country and opening up to Tourists at the same time, to me, is an impossible task as long this virus is going rampant in so many, affluent countries.

If there is a solution to that, let's hear it????????

 

 

Samui, like Phuket is seriously over rated. A lot of hype about nothing, especially Samui. Such a boring island really, with very little to do, and the local are anything but friendly. You can just imagine what they are like now...I went to visit my children, and it was like the locals are blaming the foreigners for Covid, and their lack of business. Police are shaking everyone that passes by the check points, with every public place you go to visit you must sign in at the door, with you details. Good dining was scarce and very hard to find. I found it easier in Surat town to enjoy a good meal. Prices are twice what they are on the mainland, sometimes even triple as the locals want to make up for lost revenue. Again, giving off the impression that the situation is somehow our fault and not a problem we all must share going forward. Sad to see the backwards thinking process to all of this which has occurred in 2020. Domestic tourism will not assist with Samui, for the locals know the island isn't worth much consideration, especially since the local people think they are entitled to special privileges for putting the land up for sale. None of the locals work, they simply sale land or manage rental spaces, with labor coming from Maramar or Issan at best.

The virus is not what has caused these problems, in Thailand and around the world.

We have had flu and viruses as long as I can find we have had life more people die of road accidents than the virus in Thailand and we still have cars and bikes.

This is a CONTROL operation by the powers to be, take away the CONTROL you will get rid of the problem!

It would be a great time to do some road repair and bury all those cables before Bill Gates sees them.

They can thank their Chinese friends for this gift to the world. I doubt there is much sympathy for most of the tourist businesses in Thailand from foreign tourists - far too many rip offs you can’t feel sorry for them. Huge sympathy of course for all the honest ones.

Yep - if you make a up a BS story about a relatively harmless seasonal called COVID-1984 and you fudge the figures & force governments to blow it waaaay out of proportion that's what happens around the world folks.

So don’t wear your mask when you go outside and don’t wash your hands. You would not feel the same if you were in the ICU on your death bed. Then your tune would change. Sorry to say but people who think Covid 19 is some kind of conspiracy to control the worlds’ population, need to give their head a shake. Can you provide at least one piece of credible evidence to support this?

What about all the deaths in the US? Relatively harmless? Everybody, please see the harmless virus that killed more than 143000 Americans in less than 3 months. Harmless though. No reason to worry.

I suppose that it is different strokes for different folks.

Where were the check points? I have not seen any lately apart from once about 3 weeks ago. Police checking for helmets on bikes.

I think that this is the law under the emergency decree (or you can use the app) - everywhere in Thailand.

No idea where you were eating. Samui is a big place. Certainly I avoid the restaurants in Chaweng but let me know if you come again. I will give you a list of at least a dozen restaurants that serve very good food at reasonable prices. Italian, French, Thai and even authentic fish and chips with mushy peas if that is your style. They are not in the tourist villages.

 

I found it easier in Surat town to enjoy a good meal.

I was in Surart town two weeks ago for two nights. First night I could not find one single restaurant that was open. I walked for about three hours. Second night I found one - it was a two hour walk from my hotel (near Thaksin Hospital). I did find good street food for breakfast though.

It costs more to ship goods to an island and land/rent is more expensive here than in Surat.

Extra flights every day from Bangkok and all of the villas and high end hotels where I live and work are full with domestic tourists. Thais are driving down from Bangkok for a 2 - 4 night stay. Expats stay longer.

 

I guess that the differences are down to local knowledge.

I believe China submitted the actual deaths from Covid 19. The rest of the world exaggerated the death figures for exploitation and political gain. When was the last time you heard anyone dying from a heart attack, strokes, cancer etc? In the west, regardless of any underlying conditions, you died from Covid. When China didn't join the BS bandwagon, they attack China saying they are lying about their death figures. Now the numbers are vastly exaggerated, the world will deal with the backlash. From what I understand, Thailand had about 60 deaths in total, with only 3 deaths in Phuket. So read between the lines. I think the master plan is still on schedule. They have kept us in our houses for months on end, closed all borders, ruined the economy and depleted our immune system. If the first wave didn't get you, the second one will. Don't take my word for it, just listen to a few of Bill and Malinda gates speech's on youtube, they even say this!

 

In this Video from 2015, Bill talks about our problem is not nuclear but Viral and how we are not ready. He makes an example of the Spanish Flu and how it spreads, very similar to Covid.  Bill predicts that will suffer harder than the west (wrong) and will need vaccinations.  I guess it didn't go to plan hence Bill offers Africa 10 Billion in aid if he can use Africa as a petri dish to experiment with vaccines. World organisations have donated 6 Billion to African countries. Not for hospitals or better housing and education but for contraception.  You see the bigger picture now?  Was it premonition or was it a plan?

 

I guess he's tired of dealing with Windows OS viruses, now he tries his hands at Human ones!!!

I have driven this route at noon and 4 pm and 6 pm in the last few weeks.

The words Ghost Town always comes to mind. And not all people here were rip-off artists. Plenty of legitimate and valued business shuttered. Hope many can spring back.

 

Chaweng has people about, but not Chaweng Beach road.

Interesting to note that the areas that are not into the "fleecing game " are open & surviving.

Well, there are always lots of rice paddies in Isan, providing you can find enough water. 

The mass tourism model was destructive to the country in the long run. Pollution, resource depletion, and derogation of the infrastructure and national monuments and sites. It would be great to see the country adopt a balanced tourism program in the future but the money hungry bloated businessmen in Bangkok will probably invite masses of Chinese back into the country. Hey! By the way, where did the CCP Wuhan Coronavirus come from?  A quick check of my handy world map shows the Wuhan is in CHINA !!!! DUH! THINK ABOUT IT!!!

Yes the Foreigners who brought covid-19 here are Chinese tourists and yes they are foreigners with low hygiene standards.

Farang tourists spend money in Thailand, Chinese tourists don't.
