Hi.

This was by my outside sink this morning. Its body was nearly 3 inches long. I wonder if anyone could tell me what is is. I have never seen one before. Sat there about two hours before flying away. I am in Chiang rai.

Looks like a cicada to me.  Tons of them in the States.  I have never seen one in Thailand but your photo tells me they must be around.

Super Fly !!   Cicada it is   ( thai jak a jan )

They like certain trees,  and will arrive in the thousands.    Make a constant noise which i will

not try to imitate here   lol

Not dangerous,  don't bite.    but can leave a large amount of pee under where they are nesting

It's an overstay alien.

Silence of the Lambs.

Yep, a cicada,    commonly known as a "cricket" in Australia...     Say the word  cricket, and thats  identical to the noise they make.

If you have a cat......they find them irresistable. Crunch the wings and all

BTW...if they sit in one place for hours on end...they are likely about to molt or just molted...it's an amazing thing to see if you get the chance....an exoskeleton drops off and a new bigger cicada emerges

Is a cricket not similar to a grasshopper?
