Surin rolls out yellow silk to celebrate HM the King’s 80 birthday ceremony

Surin Province produces yellow silk to sell to the general public in special prices. The silk is aimed to be made into clothes to celebrate His Majesty the King’s 80 birthday anniversary this year.

Surin Deputy Governor Manop Weera-archakul (มานพ วีระอาชากุล) reveals that the province has dyed the Hol (โฮล) silk, a type of silk made by local Surin people, in yellow to celebrate the King’s auspicious occasion. Typically, the Hol silk has a natural red color.

The pattern of the Hol silk was designed by Weeratham Trakulngenthai (วีรธรรม ตระกูลเงินไทย) who designed the Yoh Thong (ยกทอง) silk used to made Thai traditional clothes for delegates of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in 2003. The Hol silk has been weaved by 38 silk vocational groups in Surin Province since March this year.

The deputy director encourages people to make a buying order of the yellow Hol silk at the province’s community development office or visit the province’s website, www.surin.go.th, to see pictures of the silk.
