Love is not Tourism: Petition lobbies Thai govt to allow unmarried couples to enter Thailand

A petition has been started to open up Thailand to couples separated by the pandemic.

It urges the government to "Safely open the Thai borders for Love!".

It is part of the #LoveIsNotTourism movement sweeping the globe that is seeing unmarried couples who are desperate to be reunited with each other rallying on social media .

Nearly 1,200 had signed the Thai petition by 11.40 am today and more were signing every few seconds on the way to a 1,500 target.

Many foreigners with Thai partners - both married and unmarried - have been parted for months, notes Thaivisa.

Comments from both foreigners and Thais on the petition site highlighted their plight and desperation to be reunited.

A crucial matter, which may upset some, the list includes gay couples as, they too, are not tourists but lovers.

And here is the reason why this one will not get off the ground.

Not picking on you Borzandy but this does highlight how any such system might be abused.

I have a friend who is not married to his girlfriend but they have been together for about 20 years. In order to facilitate her visa here with him in Thailand, he had to produce evidence of that long relationship.

He suceeded, but it did require a fair bit of paperwork and photos.

Maybe a "Love Visa"? Though I prefer to go along with Stephen Stills..."If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with". Plenty of fish here...

What is interesting is that the number of ASQ hotels now stands at 34. Bearing in mind the difficulties of getting a flight into Thailand one wonders why the number has been increasing. I think it went up to 29 from 24 last Friday.

"Safely open the Thai borders for Love!" 555

Up to now Thailand does not want any foreigner to return no matter what reason they claim to have. I am an investor, have a company, 15 Thai people employed but due to Covid I could not extend my work permit and it expired and so did my visa - mission nearly impossible to return.

I promise you I will love her lots

Can I come in now ?

Either marriage should be the requirement or documentation showing at least 2 years of the people (straight or gay people) being In a committed relationship in Thailand.

I think there is a need to increase the available capacity of quarantine facilities to get people with retirement visa and people  normally living in Thailand in a long term committed relationship.

I am not sure if I should mention Nit or Noi in my application. Or maybe Lek? I love them all, an hour at a time.

No chance of this happening in Thailand.

The link opened for me in English.  Try opening it in Google Chrome and translate the page?  Anyway, fields are to fill in your first name, last name, and email address, respectfully.

You can obtain a visa for each girlfriend.  Just remember to inform immigration if they are long or short time ( sorry, term) girlfriends as the fee is different.  You will also need a free page in your passport for each visa ( I mean girlfriend).  Oh,  I forgot the important requirement, you'll need 800,000 in the bank for each of them too.

Depends which country you are in. I get really annoyed at Facebook when Im in Thailand as it often opens in Thai. Also the tabs are in Thai so I dont know where to go to change the language!.....ggrrrrrrr!

I signed. I'm affected by the border closures to get back to my home in Thailand and my Terak.
