Thailand’s Office of Basic Education Commission (OBEC) will, on Friday, propose to the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) that all the 4,500 schools under its supervision resume classes.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in March, OBEC has closed all its schools and introduced online learning. As the situation improved, and lockdown restrictions began to ease, OBEC resumed in-person classes on alternate days or alternate weeks, with online learning continuing for those not attending in person.

OBEC’s Secretary-General, Mr. Amnart Wichatanuwat, said today that his office wants all the schools to reopen, but they must strictly enforce social distancing, make hand-sanitizing gel available to students, ensure all students wear face masks all the time while at school and screen the temperature of students before entry.
