Decimated tourism "still has potential to kickstart" the Thai economy, Thai media

The TAT chief in Rayong in eastern Thailand said that tourism in the province was down 90-100% in the wake of the case of the Egyptian soldier who tested positive for Covid-19.

But Akkrasit Thepparit praised the Thai Prime Minister for his decisive action following the case.

The "Save Rayong" campaign has seen many tourists now returning to the province's beaches though visits to the towns and cities - for events such as seminars - remain open to improvement.

The TAT are targeting tour groups from the north east of the country to promote tourism in Rayong.

Meanwhile in other tourism news Manager and its sources hinted that the tourism minister Pipat Ratchakitprakan is preparing for talks with the PM and the new finance ministry chief over a 100 billion baht aid package for tourism.

It is felt that the sector - devastated by the pandemic - still has the potential to kick start the economy.

But it needs help to steer it through the troubled waters of the present time.

On the minus side, Pipat has admitted that accessing that kind of money at this time may prove "somewhat limited".

Finance sources said the money was unlikely to be forthcoming as urgently as needed.

how many days now without "internal" infection but still have to wear mask, sign or app in some stores ... and for what?

lockdown forever ?

I didn't realise Rayong relied on the tourist for income.  With all the factories down that way I thought manufacturing was all the rage.

A lot of factories have closed due to the overvalued Baht causing exports to plummet.

TAT would be relevant if they actual said something relevant.   Those who have jobs, and can work anywhere should be allowed to stay in Thailand for 90 days at a time, or they will just go the Malaysia or Vietnam, where they are treated much better.   Thailand needs to stop being so delusional to think it has what its neighbor don't have.  Those days are gone.

As they say in Phuket (who’s Whole economy is based on the various aspects of tourism)...”manufacturing, who needs manufacturing?”????

Your not going to be able to kickstart a moped Mr Tat ????

You have to hand it to TAT, not lacking optimism ????

from his Golden Tower comes the " solution "  ....

how about B. 10,000.- for each adult person who has no job &

no money to pay for expenses ?   that will be more " Useful "

and the Foreigners ?   USD 1.- at  THB 40.- ( equiv. in other curr. )

that will help to " kick start Tourism spending "  ......

Last I checked, the Baht was still ungodly high.  So no, I don’t think we’ll spend money extemporaneously.

As for foreign tourists—forgettaboutit.

Ask the Red Bull enterprise to help donate for a good cause... they seem to have plenty of spare cash to throw around.

Or ask the government to chip a corner off the 13 tonnes of gold that's sitting somewhere, which was donated to the temples by the people, so it's only fair to give some  back in times of need.

Decimated means reduced with a factor of 10, so down 90%.

The Rayong province has few touristics beaches with resorts and hotels

also the Koh Samet island is one of the favorite destination for the Bangkokians.

I have absolutely no idea what ''2.2 Situation of Patients'' or ''PUI'' mean!

Can anybody help me?
