Clinton says she hopes Harris gets 'less sexist' treatment on U.S. campaign trail

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Hillary Clinton on Thursday said she hopes Senator Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party's vice presidential nominee, and women running for political office in the future will receive "less sexist" media coverage than she did in 2016.

"I still hope, especially with Kamala on the ticket, that the coverage of women running for president or vice president will be less sexist, less sensationalist and less trivializing," Clinton, a former U.S. secretary of state, said during an online forum hosted by news organization The 19th.

Clinton, a Democrat, lost in the electoral college to U.S. President Donald Trump in 2016 despite receiving more votes than him nationwide.

Clinton said she had talked with Harris and Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee who this week named Harris as his running mate, about their campaign.

"They are inheriting a mess of historic proportions," Clinton said, adding that she did not think the coronavirus pandemic would be over by January when Biden and Harris would take office if they defeat Trump and Vice President Michael Pence.

"I think Joe and Kamala together will be absolutely ready for lots of long, long days and very short nights working to get as much done as quickly as possible," Clinton said.

Clinton added that she expected Trump to cast doubt on the result of the election if he loses.

"I have every reason to believe Trump is not going to go quietly into the night if he loses," Clinton said.

Clinton sidestepped a question from a reporter about whether she would serve in a Biden administration if he defeats Trump.

"If you are asked to serve you should certainly consider that but let's not go there until we actually win," Clinton said.

Clinton makes a good point. But the democrats themselves set the standard over the last 4 years in regards to sensationalist and sexist accusations. I regard the (wholly unsupported by factual evidence) smears against the POTUS by the democrat elite that claim he paid to be urinated on by two Russian prostitutes in a bed that Obama had previously slept in as the worst on record. Demeaning, sensationalist, sexist? Got it all in spades. Yet now she wants her candidate to be treated with kid gloves? Er, no. Just no.

Why are they still beating a dead horse. Rhe system was set up fir the election trial College to elect the president. It never has been about the popular vote getting, especially in a rigged ballot system. I am neither a Democrat or a Republican, and I hate politics. Its not about what the other person has done in the past it is about what you can do and want to do. So tired of mudsligoing and skeletons in the closet approaches. Time to move on Hilary and put the past in the past and work toward a cohesive government that's of the people, by the people and for the people.

Yes, the lies have already begun.  Biden and Harris' come up with a number of them during their official campaign launch.  Here's Joe in  only one instance repeating the debunked lie about Trump's "very fine people" comment after Charlottesville (video starts at the relevant time):

And here's the debunking from FactCheck.org - Trump Has Condemned White Supremacists

Part of Trump's quote:

"It’s fine, you’re changing history, you’re changing culture, and you had people – and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally – but you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists, okay? And the press has treated them absolutely unfairly. Now, in the other group also, you had some fine people, but you also had troublemakers and you see them come with the black outfits and with the helmets and with the baseball bats – you had a lot of bad people in the other group too."

National Review - Kamala Harris Lies Repeatedly in First Speech as Biden’s Running Mate

Of course when Democrats lie it's okey-dokey.  No hypocrisy and nothing to see here, folks.  Dems and libs make such a fuss over Trump's "lies" and use that as a reason not to vote for Trump but they'll vote for Dem liars just the same.  You can't make this stuff up, folks.  LOL

Agree in principal. i remember in the last few weeks of the Clinton campaign I thought she was putting too much emphasis on female rights, not the bigger picture, then came Comey's letter and it was all over.

trump and his supporters are not going to win based on this type of argument. trump has more than 20,000 fact checked false and misleading statements since he came to power. Hopefully the Dems will know how to deploy their vast amount of ammunition to counter trump.

You forgot the golden showers in Vegas.

It is Clinton who should take her own advice and leave into the nite. Her disapprovals were 2nd highest in polling history. That was because she was a war monger neo-lib whose main concern in life seemed to be her personal upward mobility. She could never shake that Goldwater Girl inner self she had. Her own kind, white woman, voted more for Trump than her by 9% pts.  Hispanic woman voted much more for Obama than her too. She went all in for the black women vote who make up 7% of the voting public.

I'm merely pointing out the hypocrisy.  You'll vote for Dem liars but not Republican liars.  You're keen on pointing out Republican lies and are mum about Dems' lies.  Utter hypocrisy.

As to the "20,000 fact checked false and misleading statements" believe what you will.  I call BS.

His lies are well documented, denying that is denying reality. That also makes your comparison denying reality.

What I find remarkable is that while Harris was always the most likely pick for Biden’s running mate Trump, his campaign and his followers have not developed any response to her being the candidate for VP.

They have so far responded with racism, misogyny, petty name calling and of course a re-hash of their ‘Birther’ nonsense.

But beyond offensive personal attacks that only appeal to Trump’s dwindling base, they have nothing - absolutely zero arguments that the important swing and suburban voters will listen to.

Just the same old offensive attacks in an election in which a key questions voters are asking themselves is ‘Do we really want four more years of this?’

For a start I am not a US citizen, but view trump as very destructive on the world stage, including, IMO for US domestic matters. At this stage with trump the indicators are trump will again not win the majority of votes, but will have to see what happens with the Electoral College process.

Info on trump's false and misleading commentary is available though more than likely you will deny / deflect. One example of many...
