How the tide shifted in Red Bull heir case

FILE – In this April 5, 2017, file photo, Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya, whose grandfather co-founded energy drink company Red Bull, walks to get in a car as he leaves a house in London. Thailand’s prime minister responded Wednesday, July 29, 2020, to growing public furor by ordering a probe into the dropping of criminal charges against the Thai heir to the Red Bull energy drink fortune accused of killing a policeman in a hit-and-run accident eight years ago. The tide appears to have turned against Red Bull heir Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya, who just a month ago looked set to walk free from all legal responsibility for a fatal 2012 hit-and-run incident.

Police now are trying to bring two pertinent charges against Vorayuth – reckless driving causing death and cocaine abuse, which only came to light in recent weeks. National Police Commissioner Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda said he will oversee the fresh investigation himself.

This move is in response to intense public pressure and sudden scrutiny by relevant authorities, including four House/Senate committees and the fact-finding committee set up by Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Cocaine abuse? How do they know that? Is he arrested? I thought he disappeared for some years already, same as the UFO monk.

What evidence do they have for the cocaine allegations ?

  • Popular Post

He seems quite happy to splash the cash overseas for the  past 8 years....nothing will happen. He will actually likely live a better life away in some posh resort rather than tooling about the streets of Thailand

Either they have evidence of cocaine abuse or they don't. If they do, surely it can't have only just come to light? In which case the question should be asked why wasn't he charged for it at the time. It seems that corruption is the answer to that.

So glad to see this case moving forward. Much now rests upon it in the public eye.

I heard a film crew was in town to film an episode of Billions revolving around this riveting story...

The initial blood test showed cocaine in his system.  The excuse was he had dental work and that accounted for the cocaine finding.  However dentists around the country have said cocaine has not been used for dental work for 100 years!

So an international arrest warrant will be issued and he will be extradited back to Thailand to face the charges.

Just not in this lifetime

He had seen a dentist but that was 5 days before the accident, I think Im right in saying they did interview the dentist who confirmed he did not use cocaine

Blood tests taken after accident.  Was explained as dental treatment at the time as apparent cover - has not been a dental treatment since well before he was born.

Had this duffus of a boy would have stayed in the country and let his family billions do the work and him do a token punishment for public consumption, by now,  he'd be back on the road driving a new ferrari no doubt...

Nothing time and cash can't cure.

No clue why anyone is wasting their time on this, other than maybe to mollify the masses a bit.

Doubt he wants to live here anyway.

He'll just have to be careful about running over policeman in some countries.

Go online and read the stories. I’m not sure why everyone is so concerned about what toxins were in his body. He killed a police officer in his car. He then ran away.....TWICE.

Problem solved. ThaiVisa barstool forensic scientists are on the case now.

Believe it was 11 or 12 hours as he was in hiding (and having "drinks" that were used to explain why blood alcohol high).

He was blood tested after the incident and his dentist claimed that he administered it as an anesthetic. Other Thai dentists refuted that claim. The article was here on TV.

You moved away from the “he was traveling at 77kph” theory?

Go online and read the reports. Just be skeptical of what the police have reported. They’ve lied constantly.

If these people refuse to face up to the charges they should be tried in absentia.

We all know he is not ignorant of the charges.

They did this for the Shinawatras.

Once he stops being front page news the case will go back into limbo.....no way at all he is going to court or jail.

The chances this corrupt country requests Interpol to arrest this guy are somewhere between none and zero.

The original blood samples that were taken from him a day or two after the accident showed two chemicals that are produced when cocaine interacts with alcohol.  The forensic report was mentioned briefly in the media at the time and then suppressed and not including as evidence for charges. But an activist dug it up and published it recently. Turns out it was a true report that is on the record and could be used to charge him with possession of cocaine (in his bloodstream).  However, the statute of limitations will expire in two years.
