The Department of Disease Control (DDC) said on Wednesday (August 19) that no infections were found among the people who had come in contact with the Malaysian man, who reportedly tested positive for Covid-19 after leaving Thailand.

Dr Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchai, DDC director general, said his department along with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration had been ordered to find and test those who had come in contact with the Malaysian.

So far, samples taken from 10 persons have been sent for the Reverse Transcription PCR test and they have all come out negative.

A 36-year-old woman who lives in Chiang Mai and is the Malaysian man’s friend also tested negative for Covid-19.

Suwanchai said it is clear the Malaysian man did not infect anyone he may have been in contact with in Thailand, though there is no obvious evidence that he was infected after leaving Thailand.

The Public Health Ministry is in touch with Malaysia for further information.

Most probably , he was infected in Malaysia during the quarantine with other patients there because his first test was negative in Malaysia.

There are instances of tainted swabs in certain countries. Even if you are not infected, you might be infected when they take a swab at you.

That was what happened in Thailand last time.

That sounds quite likely to me. He didn't have it on arrival in Malaysia and then spent many days in a place where others with COVID are also staying and have stayed in the past.

He caught it in quarantine, either from one of the other quarantined or from a contaminated item which wasn't cleaned properly prior to his arrival, like a TV remote control, etc.

I wonder who stayed in his quarantine room just before he arrived and did they also test positive, also exactly what kind of environment are they staying in? Is it one person per room with no contact for the entire time or a dorm type system?

Often Thailand has reported people tested negative on arrival and positive one week after being in quarantine. But I suspect those people got it on the plane ride into thailand since Thai people do not need to be tested before boarding the plane.

From people that tested positive after one week, I am curious if their were other people on the plane that tested positive.

For asymptomatic people that test positive are they required to have expensive hospital stays, or allowed to stay in quarantine until they recover.

Australia has had recent experience of quarantine hotels generating a number of infections via poor practices. Would be no surprise if that were also to apply to other countries.

Such a fuss and panicking only because one single guy was infected, when at the same time many other countries with daily 3-digit numbers of new infections (based on testing and transparency) and daily 3-digit numbers of recovered people, and single digit daily fatalties go back to normal life. Ridiculous.

Covid, the big Thai theatre and drama

Interesting how not one case has escaped the Thai system when much more advanced countries, with very tight controls still have outbreaks ????
