Navy: Country Needs Submarine

Actually I am all FOR them buying these subs and any other military hardware they need or want . BUT, the proviso should be they demonstrate the stuff they bought before worked in a war, prevented a war or was shown to actually protect Thailand with examples of exactly who it was used or threatened against to protect thailand. If that be done, then more is just a waste

Navy chief-of-staff Adm Sitthiporn Matkasem said the navy was procuring a submarine in accordance with its national defense strategy and incomplete information about the procurement project might be politically motivated.

Didn't come up with the tragedy I mean strategy so they could buy the subs?  Their allies during WW2 gave them subs.  Should the world take notice of Thailand's military strategy?  What is the strategy?   Does anyone know?  Why are they needed.   Maybe Jack Ma knows.

its quite obvious that the lao navy poses a clear and apparent danger.in alliance with their mainland allies the enemy shall be swept from the confines of the mekhong and civility established, the south china sea ,ummm but thailand has the bay of thailand and the andaman sea as its maritime border.i think this is the fuse, now lit. it will explode in their faces.the demos will go to most parts of society now, everyone can see what they are now,the subs brown envelope will pay for months of 5000 baht handouts to millions of unemployed people.enough said .thats it game over ,no ones wearing this

He added that the submarines would reinforce Thailand's bargaining power when negotiating with other countries to defend national interests.

Sounds like they wish to be more aggressive militarily.  Are they aligning themselves with China?  The Japanese gave them subs, and we know the history regarding that.  Doesn't sound very helpful for the average Thai.

Yes! Submarines; painted yellow in line with the National Defence Strategy. I also like the idea of solar powered airships, dropping snakes onto the enemy. Subs are old hat. Drones!! They are the new weaponry.

A country has to protect itself from aliens.

I would have thought that amongst the main purposes of subs is the ability to remain silent and undetected at sea. Do the Thais really think that subs bought from the Chinese will be undetectable by the Chinese if it came to a conflict ? The Chinese will always know where those subs are, anywhere on the planet.

Next destroyers and aircraft carriers...followed by nuclear energy...only used for the Chinese peaceful expansion...

Aircraft carriers? These guys can barely land on land let alone a moving, rolling and pitching object on water! They would have to do all their navy aircraft carrier exercises in the doldrums????.

I think you are missing the ruse Thailand has no stake in the south China sea whatsoever however they will be using the subs to back up China against the west in return for a few droplets of water from the Chinese dams upstream on the Mekong (and paying for the privilege by buying submarines).

You need to look beyond the puppet government to see where the power is!

I think you have lost context of my comment the user said "they are sino-thai" when describing Thai people saying that "they" are "Chinese at heart" which is a broad statement an incorrect one when sino-thai's are a small minority in Thailand whether or not they have power is another subject that I didn't comment upon.

Problem is that the 14% Sino-Thai and the Bangkok elite are virtually one and the same. I’ve found that many ordinary Thais dislike what they call the ‘Thai Chine’, and this is at the heart of the divisions in the country.

Who is talking about the Bangkok elite? I would agree most Thai people don't like Thai Chinese that's my point "they" the Thai people are not "Chinese at heart" and if this situation is anything to go by I can understand why.  I would put it down to the checkmate situation that the Chinese have put Thailand into rather than some Bangkok elite pulling the strings anyone that has read the art of war knows how they operate I think it's more about their debt trap policy than elites personally.

Takes years to build up a submarine force

1. First thing you need is a professional pool of military soldiers, sailors and technicians not to mention leadership with a high degree of education and ability, also required is appropriate infrastructure to deliver the training and development required to achieve the aim of a 21st century Submarine capability

2. Cannot......

You don't need all the expertise when the only intention is to park them up next to the Aircraft Carrier and never use them because the Sailors would be 'too scared' to go underwater.   They are only being bought for the amount of rake off certain people will be getting out of the deal !

National defense???..what a load of <deleted>...the only people they need to defend against is themselves and their idiotic driving skills....

I can just imagine it now. 2 subs involved in a head on crash, or a T bone. "The windscreen was blanked out, and the brakes didn't work".
