RichardColeman
Actually I am all FOR them buying these subs and any other military hardware they need or want . BUT, the proviso should be they demonstrate the stuff they bought before worked in a war, prevented a war or was shown to actually protect Thailand with examples of exactly who it was used or threatened against to protect thailand. If that be done, then more is just a waste

rupert the bear
its quite obvious that the lao navy poses a clear and apparent danger.in alliance with their mainland allies the enemy shall be swept from the confines of the mekhong and civility established, the south china sea ,ummm but thailand has the bay of thailand and the andaman sea as its maritime border.i think this is the fuse, now lit. it will explode in their faces.the demos will go to most parts of society now, everyone can see what they are now,the subs brown envelope will pay for months of 5000 baht handouts to millions of unemployed people.enough said .thats it game over ,no ones wearing this

Sounds like they wish to be more aggressive militarily. Are they aligning themselves with China? The Japanese gave them subs, and we know the history regarding that. Doesn't sound very helpful for the average Thai.

You're correct of course, but a large part of that 11 to 14% are in positions of power, or pack significant financial clout; in other words, they make or influence the decisions that the unfortunate plebs have to pay for.
owl sees all
Yes! Submarines; painted yellow in line with the National Defence Strategy. I also like the idea of solar powered airships, dropping snakes onto the enemy. Subs are old hat. Drones!! They are the new weaponry. A country has to protect itself from aliens. Tony M
I would have thought that amongst the main purposes of subs is the ability to remain silent and undetected at sea. Do the Thais really think that subs bought from the Chinese will be undetectable by the Chinese if it came to a conflict ? The Chinese will always know where those subs are, anywhere on the planet.

Mr Meeseeks
I don't know what use submarines will be? They don't have mirrors to help with popping pimples or loud exhausts. Seems to be a compensation exercise for inadequate men in uniform.

It is just another trip to the trough for the usual suspects with padded expenses You missed out UK which has the ability to mobilise an invasion force globally as demonstrated in Iraq, Afghanistan and more importantly the Falklands.

I think you are missing the ruse Thailand has no stake in the south China sea whatsoever however they will be using the subs to back up China against the west in return for a few droplets of water from the Chinese dams upstream on the Mekong (and paying for the privilege by buying submarines).

This makes water exchange slow, and the strong water inflow from the rivers reduce the level of salinity in the gulf (3.05–3.25 percent) and enriches the sediments. I would agree most Thai people don't like Thai Chinese that's my point "they" the Thai people are not "Chinese at heart" and if this situation is anything to go by I can understand why. I would put it down to the checkmate situation that the Chinese have put Thailand into rather than some Bangkok elite pulling the strings anyone that has read the art of war knows how they operate I think it's more about their debt trap policy than elites personally.

Cannot...... You don't need all the expertise when the only intention is to park them up next to the Aircraft Carrier and never use them because the Sailors would be 'too scared' to go underwater.
