Ahead of the recently released trailer for The Batman, Danny DeVito shared his thoughts on Colin Farrell, who will portray The Penguin in Matt Reeves’s forthcoming film.

DeVito famously played the well-dressed villain – whose real name in the comic series is Oswald Cobblepot – opposite Michael Keaton in the 1992 movie Batman Returns.

Asked by Collider if he had any helpful tips for the Irish actor, who made his debut as The Penguin this weekend in the film’s first trailer, DeVito revealed, “I haven’t spoken to him since, but I’m really looking forward to it.”

The Matilda star said he has high hopes for Farrell’s rendition of the role, stating, “I think that no matter what, he’s going to be great because he’s a great actor.”

Did DeVito talk to Burgess Meredith about the role when he did it in Batman Returns ? Probably not.

Meredith was the first Penguin (on TV and in the movies) back in '66-'68.

Somehow I can't see Colin Farrel as a "Penguin" but I guess we'll have to wait and see. Many people didn't think Daniel Craig would be a good Bond either and it worked out OK (even if he didn't slit his wrists as promised and went ahead with making another Bond film).

It would have been much more interesting if DeVito had said that Farrell was simply not up to the task of following in his footsteps.????

I think a lot of thought went into these thoughts

they are so bored they have to reboot old crappy movies, hope it flops

Studios and independents remake or update movies because they made money, which means the public enjoyed them, so I'm guessing they couldn't have been that "crappy", and it wouldn't matter to you anyway as you wish them to fail no matter what. THAT is certainly a seriously negative attitude and seemingly par for the course as I've yet to read anything positive from you. Please, surprise me and restore my faith that anything is possible :cowboy:

I was hoping for a black female penguin.

Damn those patriarchal racists in charge of casting.
