They are basically equal with the US on that meaningless statistic you mentioned as are about 10 other countries.  Well within the margin of error which makes sense because all it is showing is percentage that die which should be very similar in 1st world countries. But they are far far below on number of cases per 1 Mil which is a much more meaningful statistic you conveniently ignored.

The WHO calls for us to be socially controlled in this fashion from now on, this is their normal , not the citizens

They destroy your future , force you to wear masks under the fear & pretence of the virus.

Please be clear about this in your understanding the Govt has brought this, in compliance with UN & WHO, they are already talking about Global warming

They also wish to continue with the pretence of the fear of the virus in compliance with WHO, to force control on you

They are not protecting people they are enslaving you  in a new preorganized move. I admit it is difficult to comprehend ,but it is happening

It is not about public health , as there has been no public health impact ,Old infirm people are dying , 95% of society live healthy , no masks , no distancing, no lockdowns

I'm actually very tempted to do just that as I'm less than an hour from Dublin and I've never been to Greece.....looks like Thailand is out for me and with it a job lol.

Correct! When you look at how high beer prices are in relation to daily rates of pay.

That 95% may be a bit wide of the mark.the over 60s and the overweight and those with medical conditions that require social distancing, the ethnic groups that are vulnerable to Covid 19 may be nearer 30-40 % than the 5% you claim.

The virus in Thailand is doing the elite and hi-so's a big favour. The poorer majority are now being pushed back down again. Thousands losing their jobs etc., which is  a shame if not a tragedy ( my family included ). For a few years now people have been improving their living standards and many buying luxury goods such as vehicles and housing, once again members of my family included. Their future is not bright but luckily the repossessions agents aren't knocking -- yet. At Borwin, home of most of the car factories, Chevrolet has gone. Mitsubishi will move their factory/assembly plant to Laos when building is complete. Who's next ? Are the government worried ?

Opening up borders to Tourists, now or even near future, inevitably will be bringing Covid-19 to Thailand again. Lockdowns again, paralyzing many businesses if not the whole country.

Look at Australia, Victoria, Second wave, lockdown Stage 4. Costing the country Billions of dollars ☝️

Massive numbers of death!

Open the borders and you are inviting disaster.

Check out what's happening in Europe, no good.

I do applaud the Thailand Government, to keep this Kingdom Covid-19 free.

Untill we have an approved prevention of getting Covid-19, we can not travel, full stop.

Total nonsense.

Europe is learning to accept and adapt. Europe isn't taking the approach of 'zero cases is all that's acceptable'. Covid is here to stay but most Asian countries haven't woken up to that reality yet.

Economies in Europe are starting to recover. Yes cases have risen but it's the new normal as people keep calling it. Yet Asian countries Thailand especially are heading in the opposite direction and need a serious reality check.

You need to clap loud in your applause as there won't be many of you.

They've painted themselves in to a corner. Will be interesting to see how the Thai people will react if they decide to keep the draconian rules during the whole "high season"..

Sorry, I don't see that.

The gov took appropriate actions to curtail spread of the virus fully understanding that it would impact the economy.

Now they are considering a guarded restart fully understanding the risk.

I don't see how they've lost any prerogatives they had earlier.

I expect the Thai people will react as they have since the beginning; with considered prudence and forbearance. They have reacted more wisely and laudably than the citizens of many other nations have and still are.

I'm fact the childish and selfish behavior of some other countries' citizens have made the Thai people seem mature in comparison.

The needs of the many outway the needs of the few...

The UK now has about 5-20 deaths a day, and based on 99.3% of all cases being pre existing health conditions, it seems that this virus is about a deadly as seasonal flu to most people.

I've noticed the "it's not the flu" brigade seem to have gone rather quiet lately. Now I'm waiting for the lock downs because the flu is "killing people" and we must protect the vulnerable and flatten the curve and beat the flu.

As testing increases, "cases" increase.  But how many of those "cases" are people who are actually "sick," or more importantly, "seriously ill"?

Much more deadly to a small percentage - but much less harmful to everyone else - including children, for whom flu can be dangerous.  The insane part, is instead of simply instructing the vulnerable to self-quarantine, they are holding everyone hostage, though this virus is no threat to us.

Masks on public-transport are fine; reducing all resperatory-transmitted illnesseses with common-sense is welcome.  The alcohol on entry/exit is a good idea as well.  But "standing apart" until you get on the train, to then be "packed together" in a tighter-space, is just pure theatre-sillyness.

They could let the tourists in, pre-tested and tested again on entry, charge 500 Baht per-head covid-tax, and use that money to pay the old and sick to stay indoors until a safe vaccine is available for them (the rest of us don't need one) - as well as offset any associated medical-costs.  Need 1000 Baht per-head?  Ok.

Even more conservative, just open some islands, and keep the tourists there.  Thais who want to work there could be tested for pre-existing conditions which could make covid dangerous to them, and follow quarantine on returning to the mainland.  Again, could just charge per-head per visitor, to cover medical and quarantine-costs for the Thais.  Add ~200 Baht per-each, and could include medical-insurance for the foreigners, also.

And all those foreigners they plan to boot out in September, if we don't payoff immigration via agents?  Let us have the option to go to the "covid islands," and pay 1900 Baht/mo in Visa extensions to stay as long as we want to keep spending money in Thailand.  Oh, wait, no brown-envelopes for immigration that way, so will be a lot of resistance.

Khun Prayut Chan O Cha is doing an excellent job in managing the virus and minimization of transmission.

I hope he is as successful at stopping the flu next when it starts killing hundreds of thousands of people next year!I'm thoroughly looking forward to the seasonal lockdowns in the new abnormal.

It’s going to be painful for a Thailand. Covid will come here as soon as they open up to outsiders.  The outsiders will have built immunity that Thai’s will not have.  Thailand has successfully hidden under a rock.  Once they move from cover Covid will appear and spread.  Best to get on with things as Covid is coming like it or not.  Does anyone believe that there will be a vaccine that works any better than the seasonal flu vaccine?  Well forget that.  Time to stop the economic suffering, the fear and emergency powers.

It's not actually certain that Thailand doesn't have immunity already as I believe it's possible that the virus raced through Thailand from November last year to March this year and by time Thailand started testing they caught the tail end of it.Remember the 3500 plus deaths from "viral pneumonia" at the start of this year then the government abruptly stopped publishing those figures? That was about the same time a lot of people including myself and family had a spate of flu like symptoms and there was even a specific thread on this forum about precisely that and many posters reported similar experiences.

Here's the solution when/if that happens sooner or later - only the vulnerable need to 'lock down' themselves.  Everyone else is not at risk - less than flu - far less than "being in a moving car" - so can go on with life as usual.

  • Popular Post

Let's spend billions on submarines, let's allow 1,000's to die on the highways, let the air continue to get worse and worse each year, AND deprive millions of a tourism related livelihood, without providing them any meaningful assistance.

I believe that might be at least a part of what the youth are complaining about, and describing as an extraordinary lack of leadership.

To all those who think covid is not serious, there is long term permanent damage done even when a person is asymptomatic. This is a serious disease. The effects of this will be felt for decades. New cancers, early organ failures, etc.

Long term permanent damage? It's been around for less than a year so what you're saying (making up) is impossible to know. New cancers and early organ failures? Says who? The vast majority of people will have no long lasting damage or future related issues. If what you are saying was true, no vaccine would ever be safe.
