Thaivisa launches new Thailand golf directory

Thaivisa launches new Thailand golf directory

Golf plays a huge part in Thailand’s tourist industry, along with Medical tourism and Weddings. In fact, over 700,000 international golf vacationers spent their tourist dollars coming to Thailand back in the busy period of 2018.

Naturally those figures have dropped now due to the Covid 19, however there is still a large number of expats working or retired in Thailand, who regularly play up to four rounds of golf a month.

It is estimated that currently there are over 1.7 million rounds played a year at over 250 golf courses across Thailand.

With the recent news that Thailand tops the list of the safest destinations to visit, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

However, most travel companies do not expect international tourists to return in large numbers until well into 2021 and maybe longer.

However, the Thai golf industry still needs to compete against other Asian countries such as Vietnam or Cambodia to attract those valuable overseas golfers.

Digital Golf Directory Launched

Therefore, Thaivisa in conjunction with Birdie Thailand, have launched a new Digital Golf Directory on their Golf in Thailand Forum, aimed at giving the Thai golf industry an international platform to promote their courses and services.

Check it out at https://forum.thaivisa.com/forum/278-golfing-in-thailand/

In conjunction with Mike Bridge editor of Thai Golf News, the new Forum now includes a golf directory, a golf news section plus platforms for clubs to post their promotions, items for sale and a section for Golf Societies.

Mike Bridge said, “We have separated the golf directory into regions, and we have listed over 140 golf clubs across the country. Naturally out of a total 250 courses, some are either too remote or maybe not up to international standards to be included. Therefore, we believe that the courses shown are maintained to international standards and are able to offer a service that will attract Overseas players.”

The Golf in Thailand Forum which has already attracted over 65,000 views in the first month, will also allow viewers to post their own comments or even write a short review on a particular course, which overtime will become invaluable information for future players.

Dan Cheeseman, managing director at Thaivisa added, “There has never been a greater need for up to date information, especially since the Covid 19 Pandemic, and our status as the No.1 website about Thailand for foreigners has seen the site soar to over 7 million-page views a month and our social media reach grow exponentially in 2020.

We already work closely with the tourist industry and including the Tourism Authority of Thailand through Expat Explore, so adding a strong platform as well to promote Thailand’s golf industry makes a lot of sense.”

All basic entries are free to all golf clubs with enhanced packages available allowing extra information, photos and offers to be included.

Thaivisa believes golfers locally and internationally will embrace the Golf in Thailand Forum, and will find it both useful and helpful.

Golfing in Thailand aims to become the No.1 information source for golfers keen to play in the Land of Smiles.

The 2 courses (Army and Egat) here in Uttaradit are definitely not of International standard but the Egat one (Sirikit Dam) is the much better of the 2 when its not the rainy season and water logged with the fairways not cut .

My wife and I like Sirikit Dam and always try and include it in our trips.

I think you need to give the guy a chance to get himself sorted. I don’t think he has anywhere near finished yet or we have somewhat different opinions of what should be included.

I just don't get the golf thing...tried it twice...not for me.  Can remember many years ago when the captain of the Pattaya fishing club told us he was standing down, and the other guys suggested I take over.  I told them that was not a good idea for two reasons - 1. I still work and 2. I live in bangkok.  They got in a huddle (on the boat) and the reply was...but...we got GOLF. Since then the club has gone to pot.

Does anyone know of any golf courses near Koh Chang ?
it it compulsory to have to hire a buggy (motorised cart), or can you walk around the courses?

some of the Pattaya courses seen very expensive !

there was a nice golf course near phichai uttaradit when I visited 9 years ago thought it was called something like water world , does anyone know of their website ?

man thanks

Hi - I took your survey based on right now

it is cheaper here than abroad - but only since covid.
is it worth being a member - no - same point

re caddies yes - if you can book one you know else - for me - no I would rather save the money.

cheers and good luck

is that something "the old guard" likes to do, spend money on ?

for me: golf course, full of pesticides, but hey, ignore it while you start to dement

Normally only the upper end courses where you have to hire a buggy. Around Pattaya (within 20mins-1 hour) there are more courses where you can choose than insist on compulsory carts.

What do you call expensive?

The Siam courses, Che Chan, Lam Chebang are with an all in cost probably around 3-5k all with compulsory buggy.

But there are many good courses for less than 1500 baht (including caddy tip) if you walk and some even with an included buggy for that price.

That would be a smack in the teeth for separated families if golf package tourists were allowed to get back to Thailand before others.

and i am a firm believer in the old saying around of golf is a good walk spoilt

Thailand a long way from being cheap or top class.

I'm aember of Eastern Star and its gone backwards for the last 10 years.

I'm also aember in a country golf club in Australia.

Thailand life m'ship $5000 and $1000 per yr maint. And you pay for cart and caddy and a tip.

Australia (better course btw) $300/year 1/2 that if you live out of town. $5 per game water levy. Bring your own cart or walk, no caddy or tip.

Just no comparison. I can play on 50 affiliate clubs for $30.

As a Thai Resident I'd expect discounts big ones. Nope.

So I packed up and left. If I ever want to visit again it won't be for the golf.

Btw my Eastern Star membership now worth less than 1/2 what I paid for it in 2006.

My granddaughter will hopefully take it over.

So why visit a golf forum? Bit like a vegan going in to a butchers, why?

Directory correction - Hariphunchai golf course is in Lamphun, not Chiang Rai.

Directory omissions:

Mae Moh golf course in Lampang is an interesting challenge.

Chiang Mai - Gymkhana, Hang Dong. Nine holes. The latter is probably the cheapest golf in that area.

Chiang Rai - Mae Kok military course, currently promotion 300 baht for 18, includes caddie, not tip.

                - Old airport course, 450 baht, nine holes, as much golf as one wants to play in a day. No caddies. Quirky.

                - Huay Sak, six holes. 30 baht for 6 holes, 100 baht for caddie. Water carry from the tee on  five holes.

There used to be a 9 hole par 3 course on the island called Siam Royal View Koh Chang Golf Course but I don't know if it's still open.

Why  would anyone  go to Thailand to play  golf on courses  no where near  the  standard  of courses  back home?

One on thew  safest destinations   Thailand?

Roads  deaths   ....crime  rate  ... drugs  ....assaults   ...rapes.....Really   what  wheatese  packet you pull that card from?

My insurance  rate  Thailand  and  very dangerous  to  visit  ...sorry

Now  seems to  be the land  of  (Smilies)    but  dreamers ....lol

Poor Thailand

Golf is not cheap here in a Thailand.

You have to pay an uneducated employee to carry your bag when you can do it yourself. So you pay twice the amount you pay if you were in your own country.

I know most of you old dirty foreigner like having a young caddy to lift your spirits but honestly they know you like left overs and they need the money.

Then there are course that you must have a cart to play. I thought golf was a walking sport? Oh, I forgot there are a lot of far foreigners that drink all night can need a cart to continue drinking when they play.

Some of these course needs to be closed due to bad facilities, which is being managed by uneducated and untrained employees.

As for the survey, it was of no importance to a real golfer. Waste of time when it will not change anything.

Chiang Rai had 9 cases of coronavirus. They have recovered, there are now zero cases of COVID-19 in the whole province.

I've lived in Thailand for ten years quite safely, all the risks you speak of are minimal if one uses common sense. I've driven a scooter and a car here for 8 years without one accident.

Santiburi and Happy City golf courses are the equivalent of some of the best courses in the sand belt of Melbourne.

I feel much safer living here. I can move about without any restrictions. My home town of Melbourne is in Stage 4 lockdown.

Went online to check it out and it is quite hard to get a lot of info....if you can get the full address and contact info we could add it to courses in other regions. From the phots I saw it looked a bit dry and patchy on the fairways. Maybe you can add a short review?

I realise it is one of the few courses in that region, however from the photos it looked like their fairways were a bit patchy.

Thanks for your comment. Chatrium Soi Dao is about 60 mins from Koh Chang and is a first class course. Details in Other Regions in our Golf Directory. There is a small par 3 course at Siam Royal View on Koh Chang which is open to guests.

I agree for many retirees the top courses are expensive however if you shop around there are fair deals on offer. I understand The Emirald GC near Rayong are offering THB1,150 green Fee, caddie and cart and I am told the course is in good condition. Suggest you check out our Golf Offers forum to see what is available.

You sure you could not have found anymore stereotypes to have a go at?

Have you ever tried to "carry" your own bag around 18 holes in Thailand in the heat and humidity........Even pushing/pulling a trolley is hard work as I know.

Oh and all the Thai players (male and female) seem to like having a caddie as well......

You should have replied to the guy I replied to - he was the one saying it was expensive.

Emerald course was in reasonable condition when I played it about 3 weeks ago or so. However greens were very slow and sanded.

I would rather play Greenwood at 550 gf (with a voucher) which is in excellent condition. I walk by the way.
