A colleague of mine picked up his Yamaha R15 today. Looks very nice, nicer than the CBR anyway. Some areas looked a bit cheap and plasticy, but the front end look more than makes up for it. The standard exhaust sounds much better than the CBR too. I read somewhere that the CBR is a bit faster all-round though, but even if it is, I'm sure it's not by much.

Keeping it on the boil and the Honda will be...but we are talking about 150s here. If one lives close to a competent Yamaha dealer and wants to have the dek wen look going than the R15 will be better.

But than again I've only ever had one bike in for unscheduled repairs (the N250 because I left it sitting too long with gasahol) so perhaps the dealership part will never be an issue.

As an aside...what's with all these bloody MSX125 running around? Don't they cost as much as a CBR150? I remember when the KSR got big...but I don't remember it being this big...I swear ever 20th or so (at least!) bike is an MSX up here in Nakhon Sawan.

The MSX is popular because it targeted for the first bike rider, kids or people that don't care about HP and top speed. Looks are good enough.

BTW MSX is like 20k cheaper than the CBR150

I was at central world today and when I left my from tire was flat, completely flat. When I turned to the right to exit CW it stuck and was difficult to maneuver. At the next stop light I stopped to check the front tire but I couldn't see any nail or anything. I drove slow and made it to a gas station. They where closed but the guy was still able to help me out and put some are in it. I took the chance to examine the tire thoroughly. And didn't see anything. No reason why the tire would be flat.

I think some one must have let the air out like a joke or something. What ever it was , it wasn't cool.

Now I'm worried that tomorrow when I go to work the tire will be flat.

When I parked my bike I noticed that I parked it fairly close to a ninjas 250. Are these Thai ninjas boys like this?? Has this happen to you guys?? I'm going to go get a beer now and try to forget about this BS. I hope the bikes fine.

new 2015 model is coming, opened a thread about it as it is a all new bike but better state the info here as well.

expect it soon either this november at Impact Arena of spring 2015.

a couple of changes, exhaust, i think chassis and a bit bigger.

LEts see if honda gave it a bit better performance.

And it looks cool too, old cbr150 was ageing and this looks much more sporty.

King of 150 cc segment in Thailand will hit hard again!

Guess the second picture is an old model. It doesnt really look that new.

Performance is given with 12,6 kW/10.500 rpm and 13,0Nm/7.500 rpm. here and here (Klick on "Specification")

But what makes you sure we will see the new indonesian model here in Thailand?

EDIT:

Maybe i was wrong and the new model has such ugly exhaust in indonesia. Here a better picture.

sure this model will replace the current one in Thailand but possibly not very soon as i expected.

it looks like it is more low down torque and less top end power for more flexibility but less sporting intentions.]

It will have a Diamond frame so chassis is different sure than the current model. pipe looks horrible IMO.

I have not seen one of the new Yamaha 150's in person yet but all the pics I have seen on Thai Facebook's look

It's a nice bike but a little to big from the front end IMO. All the Yamaha sales staff say it's better than the CBR 150 but then when I ask them about top speed, power, weight, they say I don't know. If it's better in performance then I think not by much.

From videos on youtube Seems to be around 147kph with what sounds like stock muffler

What does the Honda top put at?

With my old CBR I could hit 155 tucking and around 145 with tucking. But my CBR wasn't stock. The only performance mods I did to it was the exhaust.

yamaha r15 has a soch engine with very less top end and heavier than Honda cbr150r which is revvier with a dohc engine and offers more top end power. so honda cbr150r sure goes faster.

but new honda specs indicate lower revs for peak torque as most of the riders buying these bikes demand an easier ride i guess. Article say honda wants a bit more low end power to compete with yamaha r15 which i a sure easier to ride in a city.

Also yamaha is small and tiny once you see it in real, but looks great!

I saw one of those R15s a month or two back. It's a really nice looking bike, small and very sporty looking. Surprised to hear it's heavier than the CBR as at a first glance it certainly looks smaller.

I've been trying to convince my wife's sister to buy one as she's expressed interest in getting a bike. I think it would be a good fit for her... plus then I could try it out too! biggrin.png

Sounds about right & I would guess them to be pretty equal as your findings show

sharing a video.. speed test on cbr's..

i reckon their 160kph is only about 130kph in the real world. careful running at those speeds in national roads tho. the only time i hit 150kph (real world speed) and above with my other bike (an old gpz) was in closed expressways where there are no possibilities of dogs, chickens, or ducks commiting suicide and possibly taking you along with them bah.gif

Looking at post #3730 above I notice the weight for new 150 listed @ 143kg.

The old carb version was 115kg.

28kg difference.

Whoa !!

Posted

28 extra kilo's to haul !

and that's a lot for a 149cc engine

i just don't see the point of buying the new 150, unless you want something new, weight 65kilo and you are not riding mountains

otherwise, might as well buy a (used) 250

Rode to Pang Sida national park today. 200km from Bangkok, the lazy route. Baby loaded with camping gear.

Really nice campsite there. 30 baht per day :)

Finally mounted the Loobman. We will see how it works. Cant wait to push the button again...

The Loobman looks good.

I rigged something similar to my 150 using a plastic brake fluid reservoir, a chain-saw bulb oil pump, and some drip irrigation tubing and fittings.

Cost < 150baht for the parts.

The 30ml reservoir allows application of 1 cc oil to chain every 100km if I refill every 3000 km, my oil change interval.

I give it a push if the bike will be getting wet ( e. g., rain or car wash) and again after exposure to water.

Strangely satisfying, right?

So wantan, you are actually sleeping in a tent here in Thailand? Well I guess it's okay here in the cool winter month.

Where did you buy that Loobman oiler? and what kind of oil are you using? I thought using the expensive white chain lube is fine and you just spray once every 500 km or so.

Sorry for asking but haven't owned a chain driven bike for a very long time now.

Cool ride wantan!

There are really good and organized camp sites in thailand.

love sleeping in a tent and stay simple. Nothing beats an open air sleep. Prefer it to 5 star hotel boredom.

You can use simple motor oil. I'd be interested to know what he's using also weight-wise or if it's just the left over from an oil change.

The problem with the moly grease is that it can get fouled up and is a pain in the arse to clean off to apply new. Slowly dripping new oil on means that gunk get's pushed out regularly.

I've thought about going with a Scott's oiling system; wantan's get up looks a lot more wallet friendly.
