Isolated heavy rains continue in the Northeast, the East and the South regions, the Thailand Meteorological Department forecast on Sunday.

A moderate southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea and Thailand, while a low pressure cell covers Laos, the department added.

The category 5 typhoon, "Maysak", over the western North Pacific, east of the Philippines, is moving to the Korean peninsula and Japan but it would not affect Thailand, the department said.

The forecast for different parts of the country:

Southern (east coast) Partly cloudy with isolated thundershowers and isolated heavy rains mostly in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat provinces; minimum temperature 24-26°C, maximum 34-36°C; southwesterly winds 10-30kph; waves below one metre high and about one metre high offshore.

South (west coast): Partly cloudy with isolated thundershowers and isolated heavy rains in Phang Nga, Trang and Satun provinces; minimum temperature 24-26°C, maximum 32-34°C; southwesterly winds 15-30kph; waves about a metre high and about two metres high during thundershowers.

Forecast for the week:

On August 29, the strengthening southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea and Thailand. Isolated heavy rains continue in the windward side of the East and the South. From August 30 to September 4, a moderate southwest monsoon will prevail over the Andaman Sea and Thailand. A monsoon trough lies across the North and the Northeast, and more rain is likely over Thailand with isolated heavy rain. The category 4 severe tropical storm, “Maysak”, over the western North Pacific, the east of the Philippines, is expected to intensify gradually, and move to the Korean peninsula and Japan. This storm, however, does not affect Thailand.
