August 31, 20206 yr Popular Post Thai Airways eyes expansion into food business By The Nation Thai Airways International (THAI) is planning to go into the food business with the aim of generating Bt4.4 billion in revenue to help rehabilitate the company in the fallout of Covid-19. Since the airline is still unable to resume services, its catering business – which provided more than 100,000 meals a day earning between Bt700 million and Bt800 million a month – has been sitting more or less idle. Over the past seven months, THAI has only earned Bt1.9 billion compared to Bt8.9 billion during the same period last year. It has been reported that THAI is in talks with CP All and Inthanin Coffee to deliver food products to more than 20,000 branches of 7-Eleven and 600 Inthanin Cafes. The airline’s catering department has also opened three new Puff and Pie outlets. Initially, Thai Airways had contacted PTT and Bangchak Corporation to assess their interest in the investment and has also sought a Bt100 million bank loan, which has been approved. August 31, 20206 yr Popular Post Bit like a Thai cement manufacturer moving into the porridge market !
August 31, 20206 yr Popular Post Thai's reason for existence (as specifically mandated by Thai gov't dictate / the actions it undertakes to make money is operating an airline to move people and cargo from A to B. If I held any serious policy position in this sad chaos I would be seriously demanding they get back to their core business and focus totally on the core business/their reason for existence. Seems to me that the creditors (who are owed several hundred billion Baht), should be making the same demand, total focus on core business. Edited August 31, 20206 yr by scorecard
August 31, 20206 yr Popular Post Thai airways omelette two-in-one, if you don't eat it, it can be used as a sponge!
August 31, 20206 yr Popular Post Hey you there Thai airways, how about giving me back the 30,000 baht refund on a cancelled trip from back in March before you go start another business using my money please..Turned out by the following article that those gus at TG were rotten and crooks to the core, no surprise there... https://www.paddleyourownkanoo.com/2020/08/30/thai-airways-employee-claimed-419-days-of-overtime-in-a-single-year/ Edited August 31, 20206 yr by ezzra

August 31, 20206 yr Airline food outside First and Business class generally only gets eaten because it's a long flight and there's no FoodPanda available. Bringing that food to ground level could face some stiff competition from places that actually make food edible. I just can't wait to see their wonderful bread-lookalike buns available at local 7-11... Actually wonder if they'll bring their vegetarian offering to convenience stores. As for some menus it's already there. Chose fruit platter on TG from HKG to BKK and got 2 bananas... Wonder how TG bananas would compete with Dole bananas...
August 31, 20206 yr Popular Post The wife and I flew to Australia on Thai a few years ago and I commented that this was the best airline food I had ever eaten. On the return leg the food was terrible and neither of us could eat it. I commented it would be great if there was a 7/11 on board. Well I guess it could be considered ironic that the 2 are working together now!
August 31, 20206 yr Popular Post After all of the corruption and money dissapering i have to wonder, will they ever fly again?

If there was you'd get the smell of those hot dogs on the grill permeating the plane, just like in the stores. Turns my stomach. Terrible when you have to wait on line at the counter and stand right near the thing.
August 31, 20206 yr Will this economy class food or Business /First class catering?? If it is business/first catering, who will prepare the dish in a 7/11?? If it is economy I thought , this was already sold in 7/11 stores, my bad

August 31, 20206 yr They got hungry military regime and elite to feed at the trough. Better make some food now!
August 31, 20206 yr Just resolve existing issues & get ready to fly again (if you are going to) In other words, don't give up your day job
August 31, 20206 yr they RAN their main business into the ground so they probably will do even worse in a business model that seeks profits... those 100.000 meals, people had the choice of NOT eating or eating what you paid for, on a plane, big difference if you want to make something people actually want to eat & pay for
August 31, 20206 yr 2 hours ago, Kadilo said: “We can offer you only the chicken curry sir as compensation, the beef is finished” Perhaps similar to taking a business class evening flight, after take off they start to serve drinks, I'm the first passenger they serve. I ask for a gin and tonic. Response: 'Gin and tonic finished today, what beer do you want'.

August 31, 20206 yr I avoid flying Thai Air precisely because their food is amongst the worst of all airlines. Good luck to them in selling worse food at higher prices than KFC and McDonalds.

You do of course realize that on the outbound leg to OZ the food was prepared in Thailand and the inbound leg to Thailand the food was prepared in OZ! ????
August 31, 20206 yr Not quite the news I expected to read after the other news paper reporting about corruption found in Thai Air but well this is sponsored by The Nation after all.
